Re: The Last Hero - AB Nation Discussion

I will say that even if it's not a masterpiece overall, it did give us four songs that are worthy of an 'all time AB songs' list. This Side of Fate, The Last Hero, Island of Fools, and Cradle to the Grave are all as good as anything they've ever done, imo. Absolutely. The fact that Crows on a Wire ...

Re: The Last Hero - AB Nation Discussion

...some babbling about AB focusing on pleasing everyone... Only read your comment now, but I agree with you. But that could also have to do with the fact that the proggy/metal direction is what I love the most about AB. :) I will give Fates Warning - Theories of Flight some goods listens! Sounds gr...

Re: The Last Hero - AB Nation Discussion

you are really adamant about stating your dislike for Blackbird for some reason. The band can only play that album live so many times before it drives the fans crazy... :lol :P (I kid, I kid) they certainly do play it a lot. I wish they'd play more ODR songs. The fact that they only play like 2 or ...

Re: The Last Hero - AB Nation Discussion

Well if that doesn't work out, I would recommend getting into a profession like journalism or law or anything editorial where you can showcase your writing. just fyi. Thanks, I'll be sure to keep that in mind! :rockon However I'm aiming to one day be the next David Lynch, so hopefully I won't need ...

Mister Gold, what is your profession? Your writing is fantastic. Your timely and appropriate use of transitions is *muah* magnifique. Thank you so much! I'm just a college student working on his Bachelor's Degree for a Film Studies major! Here's a short film I made, if you want proof. :lol https://...

Re: The Last Hero - AB Nation Discussion

I have mixed feelings on the album. Though, unlike most folks here apparently, I greatly appreciate that the band often went in a heavier, more progressive direction on this album. I've made the argument before that the Alter Bridge that made One Day Remains has been gone for a long time and is a ve...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

I honestly doubt that many metal communities is really willing to accept AB as a metal band (because, ewwww, they used to be Creed and are not brutal or flashy enough.......) I think the main reason why I'll probably never consider AB to be metal is Myles' way of singing. It's just pure rock. Mark ...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

It feels like it has a more sinister tone, but I don't think that it has to do with radical islamists or something. I actually think it, in a sense, sticks with the political tone as well as ties in religion to one major theme. Being ignorant about other's beliefs and ideologies is one way to halt ...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

Anyone else think The Other Side lyric is inspired by the Paris shootings? I think it might be. Nah I think its just more or less a lyrical sequel to the conversation Myles and Mark had in WDTTW, personally. I don't think it was inspired by any current events. Could be just me though. There's defin...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

I will say this though. As much as Mister Gold is most likely right about a song like My Champion looking more and more out of place in the modern-day AB, I still feel like the idea that "people discrediting it as a song, because it does not sound like what AB is to them and therefore, it is c...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

The thing is, though, you might not think that AB is a hard rock band, anymore, but I honestly doubt that many metal communities is really willing to accept AB as a metal band, but screw those communities anyway. That depends on what communities you go to though. Hell, even when the reviews come in...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

Again, its times like this where I always ask myself, "What is the AB sound? How can one truly define the music and sounds that Alter Bridge makes?" Again, I'm still searching for that answer after almost a decade. See this question was answered for me on their first album. The AB sound i...

Re: Official TheAlterBridgeNation.com Review of 'The Last He

Well done, TABN. Thanks! But you left off one star. Yeah, the only bit on the review that even comes off as negative to me are the comments about how the production of the album is pretty loud. Seems like it'd be a 4.5 out of 5 at the very least. Out of curiosity, has the site officially reviewed o...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

Valid point! Although I don't think any band can be compared to Queen. Let's face it - Freddie Mercury was a god among men, and that band is truly once of a kind. But this really comes down to more of a matter of personal preference. I much prefer more organic vocals, without effects or layering. O...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

Much of me feels like I would enjoy Poison In Your Veins much more if it didn't sound like there were five Myles Kennedy's singing with possibly a Mark Tremonti thrown into the mix. Please go back to just one Myles??? THIS! 1000x THIS! This is a band with two lead singers... why the hell would you ...

Re: Alter Bridge Listening party

5. Poison in Your Veins - So I can't really explain why but this song made me think of the phrase "porn rock," or maybe "stripper rock." And that got me thinking that maybe the whole album could be described that way. Go ahead and laugh; you'll see what I mean. Anyway this must ...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

I can definitely respect the argument that AB III is the band's weakest album. It's definitely got its fair share of flaws. However its best moments (i.e. Words Darker Than Their Wings, Slip to the Void) are songs that I revisit far more often than I do with literally anything on One Day Remains. OD...

Re: Official "The Last Hero" Thread

I'm probably in the minority here, but ODR is actually my least favorite AB album. I discovered them by hearing Blackbird, but Fortress was just coming out and thats the first album I bought. It spent a month in rotation before I went back and picked up ABIII and Blackbird. I didn't get ODR for mon...
