Re: The Random Alter Bridge Thread
It's a very fun song to play, very challenging. So you are doing thumb and finger plucks, while I would do all pick, and Myles mixes the pick with finger plucks. Very different sounds all around. Maybe I'll record the intro soon and post just for fun and comparison.

Re: The Random Alter Bridge Thread
Can you actually play it? That intro in particular is fairly tricky! I can almost do it by picking the whole thing, though maintaining full speed is very hard. I'm slower if I try to play it using the mix of pick and finger plucks that Myles uses.

Guns N Roses. I love how Duff's bass guitar on Appetite is mixed right in your face filling the sonic place taken up by rhythm guitars in most modern bands.

Re: Myles ranked AB albums from best to worst
I agree with this except I wouldn't even rank ODR with the rest. It's such a different album (half Creed half AB) that I don't feel it's a fair comparison.
And I'd possibly put ABIII above Walk the Sky. It's hard for me to rank Walk the Sky yet because it's still fairly new for me.

That helps! I was at home for a week several years ago due to a foot injury and used the time to play through Mass Effect 3. I had been sitting on the game for a while due to lack of time and figured if I didn't play it then I never would.

April 24: "currently playing Last of US"
May 1: "just finished Uncharted 4" (and apparently last of us and uncharted 1 to 3)
That's 4+ not at all short games in 7 days. Damn.

Re: The Random Alter Bridge Thread
Maybe AB is often too loud. I mean, a full rockband tends to be a very loud thing and in small enclosed venues, controlling all the sound that's bouncing around isn't an easy task. But yeah whatever the cause, he seems extremely reluctant to hit any of the highs that he hits on the album substitutin...

Re: The Random Alter Bridge Thread
I thought I heard in the video Myles saying something about things being too loud. He might have been having trouble hearing his own vocals from the monitors due to other instruments being too loud. That can make singing very difficult. You naturally want to sing louder yourself to hear yourself bet...

For anyone who likes turned based strategy, check out Slay the Spire. It's a deck builder. You start with 10 simple cards and add more complex cards after each fight by choosing from random card rewards. With a little experience, you'll start discovering powerful synergies between certain cards and ...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!
I was always a huge gamer... less so now at the ripe old age of 40. I had all the Nintendo stuff as a youth, and as a teen I started buying up other consoles and even got a used Sega Genesis later on. I wrote for a Nintendo website around the time the GameCube was released, but still got an Xbox and...

I'm not sure accounting is relevant to anyone's personal interests, though most people who are good at math enjoy it to some extent. It's a way to be useful in society and make money, not a way to have fun :-) In any case, without a lot more man power and funds, school has to serve such a broad amou...

If nothing else I would pick up a PS4 used... then play some of those games you mentioned and sell it on eBay. If you buy it used and sell it used, you won't take that much of a hit especially if you have a lot of time and can play through the games you want quickly. I'd start with The Last of Us (r...

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I wish I could be a fly on the wall in studio sessions of the past where various albums were created. How much of the album is from the band and how much of it is from the producer acting as a quality control filter? In most cases, you can guess that a good producer identified the catchiest riffs an...

Re: The Official "Total Randomness" Thread
Well, I was reading some TVTropes page as a time waster, as usual, and I stumbled upon pages like SATs and the B grade and after being out of high school for about 11 years, I come to realize, everything I learned in high school was pointless. The SATs, to me, was the biggest piece of time waster e...

Re: Your Acoustic Covers Repertoire
Great thread idea. I’m gonna pour over this later. I play acoustic guitar almost exclusively (and unplugged electric bass) ... I’m too lazy to plug in! But I still play heavy stuff. Have you ever tried playing acoustic bass? I got one many years ago, even though I really don't know how to play anyt...

Re: Mammoth WVH (Wolfgang Van Halen) - Distance
To be fair, I have no desire to relisten to the vast majority of music I hear. Even good stuff. If the desire to relisten is too strong, it's usually the kind of song I would burn out on after a few listens. Most music I end up really liking is stuff that I heard more than once by accident... it was...

1987? That's really early. Does anyone who heard it once at least remember how similar it is to the version ultimately recorded?
