Re: Halfway Point Fave Five Albums of 2014?

I'm determined to put together a good list by the end of the year so here are even more albums that I have heard snippets of and need to check out in more detail: Sturgil Simpson - Metamodern Sounds In Country Music Sylvan Esso - Self titled USA Out of Vietnam - Crashing Diseases and Incurable Airpl...

Re: Books/What are you reading?

Forgot to update. I finished Eaarth, which was great and I highly recommend it, and I started and finished The Hunger Angel by Herta Müller. I know the audience for this kind of book is niche, but if it intrigues you, please read it. It's so good. I love it and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a...

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread

I've decided that while I really like the album, it's definitely better in the first half. The first 6 tracks are absolutely killer but it falters a bit with Feast Your Eyes, which is just a bit staler than the tracks before. It hits a major pothole with Aunt Lisa though, which I can barely listen t...

Re: Books/What are you reading?

I finally finished that tomb of a book, The Recognitions. I just started reading something that's lighter prose-wise but more depressing subject-wise. It's called Eaarth and it's by Bill McKibben. It essentially shows how climate change is not some impending threat but is something that has already ...

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread

I picked it up today and I'm really enjoying it. There hasn't been a bad spot yet, really. I was listening in the car so i don't know exactly where, but it started to sag near the middle but then some interesting instrumental variety picked it back up. So far, I'm impressed. I still fear it'll be a ...

Swans - Bring The Sun/Toussaint L'Ouverture

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread

I finally streamed it on iTunes and I really enjoyed it. I agree with the impressions so far, that it combines some of the accessibility of The Hunter with some of the edge of Leviathan. I'll probably get it when it comes out.

It's streaming on iTunes. I won't be able to listen to it for a while but I'll be looking forward to reactions.

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

I've been told so many good things about Majora's Mask but I was never able to give it a chance. As a kid, the thing I hated the most in games was timed sections so a timed game? No way. Tried it and hated it. I'm hoping they come out with a remake/remaster at some point so I can try it again. I'm o...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

Apparently it's not a girl. Oh well. I'm excited to get back into the series. I haven't played since Twilight Princess and I didn't love that one. I also tried the Ocarina of Time remake but found it pretty underwhelming. I watched my dad Skyward Sword a few times and it looked pretty bad in parts. ...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

Hah, it's okay. I'm right there with you. Even though the character could always have a different name, it's also always been "Link" in the sense that it's the same legendary character/bloodline. And yeah, I don't think there's a reason it couldn't be a girl. I think it'd be a neat little ...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

The face looks distinctly more feminine to me but it could just be the different art style. In all honesty, it probably is just Link but on the other hand, the series producer is being pointedly cagey: Eiji Aonuma: Another interesting comment I've heard, quite frequently actually, is that, "Oh ...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

Speaking of female centered games, there's speculation the character shown in the new Legend of Zelda game might not be Link or might at least not be male. One of the game creators was coy about it, which is suspicious. Plus, some hardcore fans who certainly know more than me, say that this characte...

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

I'm sure they'd also have to add in a boob window or something. And they would all have to be running in high heels. Maybe I underestimated the difficulty.

Re: The Movie Thread

I forgot to post about a movie I saw! Last Friday, opening day, I saw The Fault In Our Stars. This movie is based on a young adult novel by John Green of the same name. I've been a fan of Green's for a while, pretty committed a few years ago and casual now, and I was excited to see this movie. A cou...
