I don't like how he put the whole company up to bat. I think its unfair to all the employees who don't have the same belief as him. It's more of a nostalgia/"cool" thing. Older microphones that had vaccuum tubes in them would leak gases onto the microphone condenser which would cause them to mess up, so an old studio trick was to turn the mic upside down and the gasses couldn't leak out.
