SHEAKENBAKEN wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:18 am Been listening to a couple albums the last few days to catch up on the 2023 releases I figured I would enjoy before it gets too close to the end of the year

So far in 2023 I've listened to:
Xandria - The Wonders Still Awaiting
Beyond The Black - Beyond The Black
Eleine - We Shall Remain
Ad Infinitum - Chapter III: Downfall
Delain - Dark Waters
Ultraviolet - As Everything Unfolds
The Dark Side of The Moon - Metamorphosis
Elysion - Bring Out Your Dead
Within Temptation - Wireless (EP)
Periphery - PV: Djent Is Not A Genre
Mammoth WVH - Mammoth II
Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden
The Raven Age - Blood Omen
Holocene - The Ocean

I have 17 more albums and growing lined up for the year tho.

Lovebites - Judgement Day
Babymetal - The Other One
Frozen Crown - Call of the North
Unleash The Archers - TBA (assuming it comes out in 2023 and not 2024)
Conquer Divide - Slow Burn
Sirenia - 1977
Mark Tremonti - Christmas Classics New & Old
Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream…
Tesseract - War of Being
Dayshell - Pegasus
Metallica - 72 Seasons
Sevendust - Truth Killer
Haken - Fauna
Godsmack - Lighting Up The Sky
Kamelot - The Awakening
Theory of A Deadman - Dinosaur
Katatonia - Sky Void of Stars
Shea, looking at your list, Put Sarayasign - The Lion's Road on your list and bump it to the top immediately. You will not be disappointed.

I like seeing Xandria and Kamelot on there. I'm seeing both of them (with Battle Beast in between) this Sunday! :rockon

The youtube share URL has changed. It is inserting some gibberish after the main ID. Just delete everything from the question mark onwards.

New Steven Wilson.

This sounds like one of those tunes that people can interpretive dance to. Yep. No further thoughts.

Exactly. Thankfully he's releasing a 'mostly instrumental 11 minute hybrid of progressive rock, spiritual jazz and electronica' next week.

I think this song is a step in the right direction though. It's minimalistic and trippy, but well put together. That ascending piano halfway the song before the 'economies of scale' group vocals for example is super cool. As a standalone song it's kinda underwhelming maybe, but I can see it working well in the context of a full album, kinda like Perfect Life on Hand Cannot Erase.

I'm just so done with him trying to write 'pop' music. Especially with all the disco influences... Realy looking forward to Impossible Tightrope!

I just don't understand Personal Shopper. You got Elton John wanting to do a song with you and all you had him do was read stuff off a shopping list?

Continuing down my list of albums I want to check out with Black Veil Brides' second album, Set The World On Fire.

To be fair, I've already heard 8 out of 11 songs from this album, but each only once except Rebel Love Song.

EDIT: Decent album. Fits with the modern rock style of the other bands I like, plus some hair metal elements that I also like. My only complaints are that most of the songs are the same tempo, and that the ending of Savior was so unnecessary. My favorite song from the album is Ritual.

Anyway, now I'm onto the next album, which is Error by The Warning.

EDIT 2: Meh album. Doesn't have the same punch of the other bands I like. I also get the feeling that Dany and Pau are trying so hard to hide their accents and sound more American that their voices end up sounding like they should be in a Broadway musical and not a rock band. So overall, I'm not getting the same good vibes about this band that I am about Plush, for example. My favorite song from the album was and still is Money, the first one I heard.

Going into listening to another Porcupine Tree album since Shallow keeps showing up in my Post-Grunge radio playlists on Spotify.

Porcupine Tree's Deadwing album.

Moriah has a solo EP and several singles that she did before she formed Plush. Some of them got reworked into Plush songs but they're all really cool. You should check them out, Max. She is so talented.
