Assholes! They have no idea what it’s like to care for the sick and dying! The stress of dealing with the public when they are at their worst is horrendous! Travel pays well but it’s hard because you are always the outsider and you always go into critical needed areas that have a lot of problems usually management related. You earn every penny and now they are capping it!
They pissed me off so I took a permanent position in wound care in the sunshine state! I got a very nice sign on bonus and great hourly pay, a set schedule , Monday thru Thursday, no holidays. I am finishing my Masters in Nursing Informatics.

When they cap travel it’s going to trickle down and the offers are going to decrease as well as the permanent hourly rates! Right now demand is high. So I grabbed my dream job! I love wounds!

Colorado was on my list but surgery on my knee changed my trajectory! :)

Aw bummer, I'm sorry to hear about your knee surgery. I hope you're doing better now.
It is healing but still hurts and I have some +1 pitting edema in my lower leg. It was a ganglion cyst removed from an old injury back in Oregon. I hit my knee very hard on an open medication drawer. I almost puked it hurt so bad. But I got a grip and kept going. Later a small cyst began to form and like any nurse, I ignored my own problems and proceeded to take care of everyone else. Well it grew and grew until It looked like I had two knee caps on one leg.

My mom said it was ugly, so I proceeded to taunt her with it and named it Fred, drew some eyes on it and a mouth. I eventually stopped wearing shorts. I kept working and wound up in Montana the girls in clinic numbed me up with lidocaine one late night and we attempted to aspirate with a 20 gauge needle. Nothing worked. 2 years later it started hurting me and interfering with jogging, squatting and work so I decided it is time to say goodbye to my stalker friend, Fred!

I thought it would be a simple outpatient procedure but it wasn’t. It was a full blown surgery in a hospital with an orthopedic specialist!

A friend of mine said, “you know, you and Fred have been together a long time. Are you sure you are going to be ok with the breakup?” LOL

My ankle is bruised and my knee still looks like I was in a car wreck. I have a 3 -4 inch incision with some long sutures protruding out of my skin. One week post op, I still managed to ride a coaster last night with my kids and It was fun! No Regrets.

Stairs are a bit of a challenge because I can’t bend my leg too much at this point. I can walk pretty well. Just can’t pull those nonstop 16 hour outpatient dialysis shifts right now or pick up patients.

I’m healing and I’m thankful! :)

Hyperbaric chambers are amazing and I’m excited to master this field! I’ve learned a ton of new material in a week.

I applied for a job on Wednesday, put a fair amount of effort into the application and thought I was a good candidate, but today, Sunday, I got a rejection letter. I don't mind the rejection, it's going to happen a lot when job hunting, what bothers me is that it was sent on a Sunday. Nobody in any HR is working Sundays (or Saturdays for that matter), and if they are, I'm sure it's not so they can look through job applications. It sends a signal that their application system is automated and my application & cover letter (yes I wrote one, yes it sucked to write, yes it was customized for the job) wasn't read. Plus, I don't want to deal with rejection on my weekend, even if the system is automated, set it up to send rejections on weekdays, at least try to keep some appearance of humanity up, and show some respect for the dignity of your applicants in the process.

I considered reapplying to the same job but putting some of the job description in an invisible text box on my resume, that way a computer would see me as a better match, but it looks like the job is closed/filled so that means it's less likely I was rejected due to my qualifications. Makes me feel a little better, but still not something I want to deal with on Sunday.

NATO/The West in general deserves a share of the blame. Russia is a bear that they've been poking for decades.

I mean sure, you can say that NATOs existence or choices to strengthen at its borders are the causes of Putin's actions across his two-decade reign that began with a military campaign in Chechnya, continued with one in Georgia, then an annexation of Crimea, then support for Assad cremating the rest of Syria and multiple murders and attempted murders using chemical and radioactive weapons on UK soil. It's just not very convincing when you've got behaviour that persistent on the other side. The west has its own problems, no question, and our turning a blind eye towards Saudi Arabia as we supply it the weapons it uses to bomb the shit out of Yemen is also disgusting, but this is purely about one man with an imperialistic bent, that has unfortunately managed to achieve huge levels of control over a state possessing a very large military with nuclear weapons.

All I said was that NATO/The West needs to take a share of the blame, Ubik. I can think that and think that Putin is a maniac at the same time.

If nukes didn’t exist, I’m pretty sure NATO would’ve gone after the regime head on a long time ago. It’s the fear of utter destruction globally giving everyone pause from the time of the Cold War up to now.

What's getting me now is seeing reports of the Russian govt saying they're doing good and showing scenes to Russians of their soldiers helping others. It sounds like the Russian public is able to see through this, but now that Putin has banned Facebook (and I'm sure other social media will follow) it may make it harder for the citizens to get the true story and react appropriately (i.e. fewer protests in Russia). It's also sad to see people reacting against the Russian people even though they're rebelling against their own government. I saw a tweet of one guy saying he can't listen to Tchaikovsky anymore because of this. :rolleyes Don't let the actions of one madman define how you view a whole nation. (see: Americans & Trump)

Dictators always try to stifle the media cause they don’t want stories getting out that paint them in a bad light.

There’s a lot of false narratives in the world but people like Putin just latch on and say every report about them that’s bad is fake.

The stupid thing about that is, despite how terrible and awful current events, you don't have to go that far back in Russian history to know that MUCH worse has been committed by Russian/Soviet governments, or even just the Tsarist regimes. The social media generation really is so immediate and short sighted.

The Covid hysteria has been replaced with Russian hysteria. Russians are the new anti-vaxxers. The fear mongering never ends.

I'll agree with that to an extent, I think a lot of it is due to schooling/education too, though. Look at this fight against Critical Race Theory going on in the states - it's a college level topic that people are arguing should be kept out of elementary schools and already is. The reason I bring it up is because there's a fight against teaching the dark side of history that is clearly doing us no good. If you're only teaching the pretty parts of history (or the non-factual ones, looking at you, Texas), you're really not teaching much at all. So many fronts we all need to do better on.

I believe we can find a way to teach the dark side of history without the neo-marxist nonsense that is critical race theory.

I shouldn't have brought up CRT. My point was supposed to be about how diluted education is getting from the central point of what are facts. For instance, in Texas, House Bill 3979 was introduced (I believe in response to CRT which is why I brought it up) that mandates teachers must provide an opposite viewpoint of controversial subjects. Is the Holocaust bad? Yeah. Does it (appropriately) paint some people's ancestors in a bad light? 100%. Should you teach a viewpoint on why it might've been a good thing for the Holocaust to have happened for the sake of "fairness in the classroom"? Definitely not! Some of us came from bad people who did things that others are still dealing with the consequences of. Should we be proud of that? No, but let's at least learn from their mistakes, and accept them as factual mistakes, and move on to be better people than them who can help those who need it.

You know what grinds my gears? The usage of the term "drop" in terms of a new album release, or even more egregious, the release of new merch, a trailer, a game, tv show, etc. The only place the term really applies is in hip-hop, stemming from the old Cash Money "drop it like it's hot" era. The term is always used in that sort of "street" way, that's the connotation associated with it, and it just doesn't apply to other genres of music - or even worse, other things that aren't music. Those are just your everyday releases. Not "drops." Releases.

And hell, let's go back to that term "trailer" I used earlier. That one has become so ubiquitous that we don't even question it, but why is it called a trailer? Because, back about 100 years ago, previews for new movies were shown in theaters, AFTER the feature was done (hence, trailing behind). The only time something like this should be called a "trailer" is when it happens after something else, as in Doctor Who episodes where they finish with "next time..." and a 30 second preview of clips of the next episode coming up. If it''s a standalone preview for a movie, TV show, video game, whatever, and it's not trailing behind something, WHY are we calling it a trailer? It's just a preview. That word even makes more sense - pre-view, getting an early (pre) look (view) of something before it's been released. NOT DROPPED. RELEASED.
