I could personally never get in to Metallica. All their music sounds the same instrumentally and drags on when every song is 8 minutes. Plus, Hetfields vocals are meh.

I think they sound unique by era of the band. Their first two albums are in their own category for me. Traditional speed/thrash metal albums. Puppets and Justice are the definition of heavy metal imo. Both of those albums are incredible. Their 90s albums took a turn towards more of a hard rock song with classic rock influences. Then St. Anger was a bit of a mess...their last two albums fall into their own era where it's an older band returning to their original roots.

I think Puppets, Justice, and The Black Album are vocally their best three albums. If you don't like James on those albums, you aren't likely to care for his voice at all. The instrumental sections are where the band really shines for me. I love all of their instrumental pieces. Orion, Call of Ktulu, To Live Is To Die, etc. I always appreciated how they gave their songs room to breathe without feeling the need to cram vocals in every few seconds.

It's thrash, vocals are so unimportant there. And if you dislike his vocals, try listening to Megadeth

I think Hetfield has a really likable voice. Spit Out The Bone on the new album is just yum. Also one of my favorite frontmen ever.

Highly Suspect's The Boy Who Died Wolf album. The 43rd album released in 2016 that I have listened to. I keep hearing good things about them. Heard that they were on a UK tour with Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown, and Halestorm early this year. Heck, Myles gave them props on a song. So I might as well hear it.
