So this kicks ass. There has been so much amazing music this year, esp from Scandinavia. Here is some more...

Listening to a UK singer-songwriter called Sam Fender. He's got a nice folk/springsteen melancholy aesthetic with some great down-to-earth lyrics. Plus, he sings with his Geordie accent, which is a very strong northern UK regional accent. That's very rare to retain. It's emotional stuff.

Sam Fender is indeed fantastic. The Dying Light, the closer from his latest album is also a song I'd recommend. It's one of the most touching songs I've heard in quite some time.

Been digging some Dayseeker lately. They just announced their new album (finally), and released another single. Get to see them live for the first time next week

An old favourite band of mine that split off from the style I liked. Their old stuff is still just fantastic though:

Kings X have a new album out. This is way better than any band should be putting out this far into their career. Heavy, heartfelt, detailed. It's great. Hard to believe that Dug Pinnick is 71 and sounding this amazing!

Queensryche - Behind The Walls

I really hesitate to hear a song once and label it an all-time great epic. This song is an exception. QR has created a lot of amazing songs and this one will take its place on a very short list at the top of them. It is everything that is great about this band. And the video and its message is so poignant as well. Absolutely brilliant.

Well, we are in September. Not only we are in September, we are in September in an AB album release year. Which means, for me, I'm going to spend this month relistening to a lot of AB material (including Live From Amsterdam and Live at Royal Albert Hall) and get myself more amped to go to Orlando at the end of the month for the Pawns & Kings album listening party. With that said, let's start with the album that started it all.

Alter Bridge's One Day Remains album

Tribute

Post by MaraCarr »

I knew it was a significant moment between those two! Incredible and so Beyond Words…Beautiful!

So Incredible and so Beautiful!

I remember a few years back when Myles was very sick and instead of canceling he chose to push forward. Mark helped him out…

Also Brian and Scott and the rest of the crew…supported them both.. it takes a village!

It’s beautiful to see teamwork like that… with that kind of support there is no division even in death!

Love them!

My first travel contract was in Oregon. I can remember being so homesick and feeling very alone. This song helped me. It’s still awesome! :)

And this one! I love them! :)

So here's what I've been listening to to pass the time when I have nothing to do in college.

1. Trying to burn some new songs into my memory. Basically it's just a playlist on loop. Mostly Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Tremonti, and Charm City Devils. When I feel like I know how a song goes from beginning to end, I remove it from the playlist. Here's what's left that I still can't hum from beginning to end without getting lost:

Skipping Stone - Charm City Devils
Dollar Sign$ - Charm City Devils
Doesn't Matter - Tremonti
Not Afraid To Lose - Tremonti
Walking On The Sky - Alter Bridge

2. Trying to memorize lyrics for songs so I can play more acoustically.

Broken Wings - Alter Bridge
Ventura Highway - America
Who Says You Can't Go Home - Bon Jovi
Peace Of Mind - Boston
Rock & Roll Band - Boston
Follow - Breaking Benjamin
Until The End - Breaking Benjamin
Evil Angel - Breaking Benjamin
Unknown Soldier - Breaking Benjamin
Dear Agony - Breaking Benjamin
Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapleton
Rocket Man - Elton John
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Hey Jealousy - Gin Blossoms
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Familiar Taste Of Poison - Halestorm
The Reason - Hoobastank
Somebody Like You - Keith Urban
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Living Next Door To Alice - Smokie
Runaway Train - Soul Asylum
Outside - Staind
Believe - Staind
Keep Your Hands To Yourself - The Georgia Satellites (as of the second that I post this, this is what I'm listening to)
New Way Out - Tremonti
The First The Last - Tremonti
I'm in love with somebody...
Found someone who completes me...
I'm in love with somebody...
Oh yeah...
And it's Lzzy Hale!

New Megadeth. It's a great album and a welcome return to form but obviously doesn't hit the same heights of the Friedman/Menza era. Kiko is great but the guitar solos don't have the same melody or flamboyance of the older stuff. I also really do miss Ellefson's bass. It had more presence in the mix and really reinforced the riffs with some clank..... oh yeah, and Dave's voice just isn't up to that much these days.

My sister got this album on vinyl for me for my birthday a few months back - spinning it now. It was a favorite of mine when I first heard it in 2002, still holds up! Hard to believe it's 21 years old!

Unbelievable. These guys are from my parents' home country of Serbia/ex-Yugoslavia, and they're still playing together after 50+ years. I had the amazing chance to meet them 4 years ago and get their signatures! This is from their anniversary concert last night. It's my favorite song from them and actually my favorite song of all time.
