The Official SKILLET Thread
Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
I don't think I've heard the entire album yet. I don't really know if what I've heard will make the final cut either but we'll see. It's definitely a mixture of more electronic/pop/catchy & the hard rock norm they're known for.
Here is a list of what I've heard so far..
Feel Invincible
Back From The Dead - Cool upbeat hard rock song.
Stars - Big ballad with some electronic stuff.. super catchy. Will definitely be a single.
I Want To Live - Sounds a lot like Awake & Alive, classic Skillet.
Undefeated - Mid-tempo hard rock song, kind of reminds me of Nickelback. lol
Lions - Another ballad, more on the pop side.
Out Of Hell - In your face hard rock. My personal favorite so far. Killer solo.
Some of these I heard as demos too, so I'm sure they'll sound even better on the actual album.

Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
I saw the track listing on the iTunes preorder a few days ago. Most of those titles look familiar.
The new single is okay, nothing amazing but it's pretty catchy for radio. Seems like they're fusing more of their electronic sounds from Alien Youth and earlier on in with the hard rock element of the band. My favorite era of Skillet was Collide & Comotose, but the new single sounds more like a modern day Alien Youth song to me.
Do you know if they're still planning to use many strings on this album, Jared? I know Chu left the band, so I was curious as to how that might affect that aspect of the music.

Nickelback? Noooooooooooo!
Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
Yeah, "I Want To Live" has heavy strings on it and I'm sure there are a few more. Chu might play some one offs with them in the future but I'm pretty sure he's going to be doing other things for the most part.
...and by Nickelback I meant musically not lyrically lol nothing cheesy.

Jared, were there talks about a "deluxe edition" like they've done with previous releases?

I wasn't really impressed with Feel Invincible, but Stars is really good.

I like Stars a lot. Reminds me a bit of some of their older ballads.

The comment section of that video is gold.

Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
Tell me about it lol. The song is either too religious or too electronic for most people...for a band that started in the 90s as a Christian electronic/rock band.
I know they moved to more of a modern hard rock sound in the mid 2000s, but Korey has influenced the band a lot since Invincible came out with her keyboard playing and sampling. This song feels like a modern continuation of what Skillet used to sound like before Collide.

Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
I think it still sounds like a continuation from where they left off with Rise. Just with some electronic elements from the pre-Collide period.
I find it laughable when people act like the old albums were the definition of rock and they've betrayed that sound and sold out. They always have been relatively overproduced pop with electric guitars. I don't mean that in a bad way, because I like a lot of their older material. It's just amazing how scared a lot of rock fans are of electronic sounds.

"I don't like all of these electronics in rock music!"
Welp, time to pack up all the amps, guitars and basses with pickups, and microphones. Said you hated electronics!
Music fans can be weird sometimes.

Lol yup.

I like Stars. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.
Regarding the other stuff, I'm fine with a band doing a little experimenting/evolving. Just refrain from crying if fans don't like some of it.

It reminds me a little bit of something like "You Are My Hope." Same vibe anyways.

Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
I personally like electronic music.. so I don't see the big deal. Obviously Skillet have always been electronic driven since day one but I guess people forget that. I don't know anything about a deluxe edition, looks like they're just doing bundle options for the time being. Also they just filmed the video for Feel Invincible.. Seth said it's really really cool.

Looks like it was just released todayJaredWard wrote:Also they just filmed the video for Feel Invincible.. Seth said it's really really cool.
Pretty cool video, and the song has grown on me a but since it was first released. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Back From the Dead seems pretty cool based off some recent festival pro-shots
Rock Never Dies
Thanks for the sig Don Harry!

Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
Hmm I really wish Skillet didn't go this direction. Kudos to them though since it is what they want to do. I don't have a problem with it. But just not my type.
Re: The Official SKILLET Thread
They released another song today. Sounds Comatose-ish. https://youtu.be/KQcY1aj9XTI
