The Official HALESTORM Thread

Post by gbruin »

Here we go, Stormers!

This is one of the bands I've taken time to wait after a show to meet. They make great music, and they are great people.

Have at it...

I knew I liked you for a reason Greg.

These guys are actually the only band I've met after a show. They're all incredibly down to earth. Can't get enough of Lzzy's voice.

I met them in the mall after a show. Seen them many times, so cool and Lzzy's voice could melt steel. Awesome band. Arejay is a show by himself.

I love how Arejay kicks cymbals and does random stuff throughout the whole set. He's a character to watch while he plays.

For those who haven't met Lzzy, she's the voice...

Loved the first album, but I never really got into their newest album.. Should probably give it a few more listens, but I can't bring myself to it..

Lzzy might be the best female rock singers around today though! She might even be the best live singer (male and female..)

I don't like the newest one nearly as much as the first album but it has some good stuff. They are so entertaining live and she just puts on a clinic every night.

In Your Room is a pretty emotional song, and I think Break In is an amazing piano ballad. The first 4 songs on the record rock hard, I think it's the back half that starts to fall off a bit imo. I think Rock Show, Daughters of Darkness, and American Boys are all kind of weak personally. I like the album overall though.

Keep on it, Timotheus. Heck, just play those 3 ballads in the middle and get lost in her voice. The music on the others will catch with a few more listens.

speaking of melting steel...

Halestorm is awesome. One of my favorite current rock bands. The Strange Case of is my favorite record of this year.

This band is great. Both of their albums are in my rotation. I just can't shake the feeling that they could be so much better. Lzzy's voice is unparalleled, and the drumming is fantastic. (Guitar is eh, but you can't win 'em all.) Despite their talents, I feel like their songs are *so close* to excellent, but not quite there.

Honestly their songwriting seems like the female version of Nickelback lol. I love them, but there's like this huge blanket covering up their full potential. Not necessarily covering them up talent wise, just material wise. They remind me of an 80s hair band on steroids.

I'll be seeing them live next month. Excited. Last time I saw them was back in 2010 at the Uproar Festival.

I agree with a lot of this. Both of you, esp Jared, are perfect examples of potential fans who are turned off to more or less of a degree by the material.

Some of it I attribute to being so young in the biz and relying too much on a lot of the typical rock clichés (and maybe that's just me being an apologist). But I think the new album does show some developing maturity of content, especially in the 3 ballads in the middle. In those, Lzzy is much more vulnerable and introspective, and doesn't dive into the dominating sex queen persona. I'd like to see that more honest personality continue to develop, as I think their talent, esp Lzzy's is truly special. I'd hate to see her and the band get typecast and cost them potential fans.

I actually think the 2nd album is better than the first. I just think the lyrics could be improved upon. I fear Lzzy will back herself into this corner where she feels she needs to sell herself in order to sell records. I worry it could affect her writing mindset which in turn would affect album quality. But honestly, they're gaining more fans now than ever and I'm not too worried about them. I'd just like to see them mature lyrically as the records progress. If not, we could be getting our fair share of "Dark Horse" album down the road.

The raunchy stuff turns me off so I really hope it doesn't become a trend. They are too good to get pigeonholed into that crap.
