Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
One of my favorite bands. They are killer!
Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
I've decided that while I really like the album, it's definitely better in the first half. The first 6 tracks are absolutely killer but it falters a bit with Feast Your Eyes, which is just a bit staler than the tracks before. It hits a major pothole with Aunt Lisa though, which I can barely listen to. That chanting ending is just... unbearably cheesy and lame. It kinda poisons the rest of the song to me so the rest sounds lame too. It picks up with the next song though, which is another favorite and is good until the last track, which might just need some more digging to get. Overall, definitely a good if not great album.

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
I feel the time is right to bring back this thread, with all the video updates they've been dropping over the last few days on their Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR7Ls5 ... csMkcwgCUA
I'm so ready for a new Mastodon album.

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
That first riff is very Black Tongue sounding (bridge riff). Sounding amazing already!

The single is already available in Australia!

I love the bridge and solo/outro.. The rest of the song might need some re-listening, though it of course sounds good. Interesting blend of some of their previous sounds.

I'm stoked. They're my brother's favorite band, so I hear them a lot.

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
Not sure how I feel about it. When I heard it this morning I didn't really like it, but listening to it now in HD it's quite fun.

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
It's a totally fine track. Nothing terrible, nothing memorable, just perfectly adequate. Matches up with the more rock-leaning tone of the last couple albums. I've got nothing against it.
Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
Why?
I really like it, it's catchy and Troy is pushing his vocal abilities on this track. Mastodon have a history of more straightforward songs such as Curl of the Burl and Once More Around the Sun so I don't find this song surprising.
I do prefer Sultan's Curse though, I really like how they're able to push the sound that they've been going for on the last couple of albums whilst incorporating elements of previous albums like Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye

Re: The Official MASTODON Thread
So happy with the new album. Precious Stones, Steambreather, Roots Remain (that guitar solo....) and Word to the Wise.. Such a spectacular four-song span. Jaguar King is ridiculous as well.

Since I never dug into this band's music I will just the time until the release to listens to their previous album. The only thing I remember from them is that their vocals are rather "rough". Kinda weird, 'cause the song they released recently sounded pretty nice regarding that aspect.
