The Official MASTODON Thread

Post by Heretic »

One of the best metal bands out there right now, Mastodon continue to release amazing album after amazing album. Combining sludge metal with prog, and having one of the greatest drummers out there, Mastodon are really a unique band.

I saw these guys back in February, it was a really good gig. They were tight and the songs off The Hunter were absolutely brilliant live, I know alot of older Mastodon fans don't lik ite, but they were so good live. Then when they played their older Leviathan and Remission material is was like the icing on the cake. I'd definately see them again.

Why do I keep forgetting about these guys? Their music is right up my alley.

I saw these guys a month ago. They're a really good live band, but their music isn't really that great for a festival imo. I'd imagine their headlining shows would be funner to see.

I adore Crack The Skye and The Hunter and Leviathan are great as well. I haven't listened to the others yet.

"For those of you who are interested, yes, we have been VERY busy writing and putting songs together for the next studio Mastodon album,” confirm the band in their statement. “We are down at our space hammering out riffs that can be friends and working our fingers to the bone to put out another great album."

I grabbed the parts about the new album.
Does the new material pick up where The Hunter left off or is it a new avenue altogether?

"To a degree, I'm going to say it's picking up where we left off. [...]"
What's next for you?

"We've got the skeletons of enough songs for an entire album. We're thinking of vocal ideas and putting together as much rough demos as we can before we go overseas so we can listen to everything over the summer. Then, when we return from the tour, we'll know what we want to keep, delete, and add."

I have Crack The Skye, Leviathan, and The Hunter, all good albums. It's so great to see how much energy and creativity they have between them. You can tell they really love just being in a band and making music. I'm looking forward to this next one.

I'm just getting into this band, but they're absolutely amazing! :D I think I'm liking Blood Mountain the best so far out of their albums.

They're quickly rising up the lists in my book! I've been listening to Leviathan, Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye and The Hunter over and over for the past several days! I still need to check out Remission at some point too, I guess. :)

They're gonna release a live album soon. What I saw from it looked and sounded pretty cool!

Yeah, I saw it too! Apparently it's only going to be digital though! :/ I hope they make a physical release for it soon!
