I'm not gonna lie, after listening to those previews I'm really looking forward to listening to this album tonight.

Re: The Official RED thread!!!
I agree with the soundtrack impression - it's amazing how naturally they add strings and make the music big. Intro is absolutely beautiful...
Having said that... I feel it's a bit style over substance - if you take out all the orchestration and noise, or you don't listen to the whole album - there isn't much left. Hooks, melodies -all are rather forgettable and predictable. You can enjoy the album while you listen to it - for sure, but it doesn't hold you prisoner when you turn the music off.

Re: The Official RED thread!!!
I pretty well agree with that. I enjoyed the album as a whole but didn't find myself craving to listen to a specific song again. It's a vast improvement over their previous album, but it doesn't have the "stuck in your head" melodies of the first couple records. I still think it's very well done though.

@Rose
That was my impression several tracks in as well. A lot of the random screaming kind of takes it down a notch for me too.

Re: The Official RED thread!!!
I see the album as a story. Like a concept album about a man's descent into madness and struggle with his inner demons until he's able to realize who he is as he begins his journey back towards the light. The album gets darker and darker until you hit "The Forest", then the album seems to show more and more of a light to it and Ascent is the most beautiful instrumental I've ever heard.
I loved this album. Their may not be many standout hooks or anything, but to me this is the album I always wanted from Red. It tells a story for me and helps me genuinely appreciate a lot of aspects in my life.
My favorite songs off of it:
The Ever
Falling Sky
Darkest Part
Yours Again
Part That's Holding On

I do think it's their most experimental endeavor which I appreciate. It's a good album overall.

They took it off Spotify a day or two ago. Must have been uploaded by mistake. If you have Spotify premium and saved it to offline mode it's still their though lol.

I'm anxious to read the song credits and see how much Rauch was involved in the writing process since he's got BB on his hands now

My personal scores
1. Descent - 2/5
2. Impostor - 3/5
3. Shadow and Soul - 5/5
4. Darkest Part - 5/5
5. Fight to Forget - 3/5
6. Of These Chains - 4/5
7. Falling Sky - 3/5
8. The Forest - 2/5
9. Yours Again - 5/5
10. What You Keep Alive - 4/5
11. Gravity Lies - 5/5
12. Take Me Over - 4/5
13. The Ever - 3/5
14. Part That's Holding On - 3/5
15. Ascent 2/5
The instrumentals are nice with the whole album, but I already know I'll be skipping around them on the day to day drives. At least they put them as seperate tracks
Of These Chains > Hymn for the Missing
After reading other reviews, I was surprised that I preferred Gravity Lies to Falling Sky. BB riff, 7D prechorus.
I found Take Me Over to be refreshingly catchy. As the upbeat rock track for the album (even though it sounds like Hillsong), it settles with me better than Perfect Life (Modern Skillet writing).
This album is definitely in the right direction. Once I get my hands on a physical copy of this, RTP probably will not be put in my player again. Excellent album

Re: The Official RED thread!!!
RTP still had some good songs, though, IMO.Andy92 wrote:Just skip Release the Panic and listen to everything else.
Release The Panic
Damage
Love Will Leave A Mark
the rest is bad, though
But yeah the other three are great so listen to them in order.
Personally I think their albums are in this order from best to worst, though.
Of Beauty & Rage
End of Silence
Until We Have Faces
Innocence & Instinct
Release The Panic
Re: The Official RED thread!!!
Innocence and Instinct is still their best imo (can't believe you have it 4th lol). But when you listen to it, make sure you're listening to the bonus track version. It adds about 4 songs but also rearranges the album order a little bit compared to the standard release.

Re: The Official RED thread!!!
I just can't get into that album as a whole, personally. Maybe it is the tracklist order or maybe it's something else. But when I look at the album; It's nothing but filler to me. There's not a single killer song. But the other albums have much greater amounts of killer songs like EOS only has 2 fillers, UWHF only has 5 fillers, RTP has 9 fillers (that's why it's last), and OBAR only has 5 fillers. IMO anyways.Andy92 wrote:Innocence and Instinct is still their best imo (can't believe you have it 4th lol). But when you listen to it, make sure you're listening to the bonus track version.
