Has anyone heared these sick Australian prog guys? I stumbled upon them a couple months ago when Inside Out uploaded their "Marigold" to YouTube. If you like great driving melodies mixed with great instrumentation and unusual song structures you should definitely check them out.

The Official CALIGULA'S HORSE Thread
Re: The Official CALIGULA'S HORSE Thread
Never heard of them but they sound really good! Reminds me of a mix between Dream Theater and older Karnivool (another Australian prog band).

Absolutely dude, Karnivool are sick but DT have lost their capacities a couple albums ago, I think. I prefer their 1999-2009 stuff to what they have been doing recently.Nick_917 wrote:Never heard of them but they sound really good! I probably spoke too soon about comparing them to DT. I don't think they're as similar to them as I thought. And yeah I prefer their pre-Mangini stuff as well, although I do think "Illumination Theory" is some of their best work ever. I'm looking forward to The Astonishing to see if they still got it. Anyway, thanks for sharing! I may look into some of their other stuff!Dolo wrote:Absolutely dude, Karnivool are sick but DT have lost their capacities a couple albums ago, I think. Thank you, Dolo. It's been a long time since I heard something new that I liked.

Marigold kinda sounds like Opeth. Hex Omega specifically. But that is not a bad thing. Not at all.
Re: The Official CALIGULA'S HORSE Thread
Shame this thread is so dead as the band is EXCELLENT. Just saw them live two nights in a row. Jim Grey's voice is something else.
Re: The Official CALIGULA'S HORSE Thread
Totally. I don't think these guys have released a bad album yet. I guess Moments from Ephemeral City was a bit subpar but it sounds more like Sam Vallen's solo album with Jim Grey's vocals put over the top than the whole band you can experience on the later records.
Re: The Official CALIGULA'S HORSE Thread
To be totally honest, I've never heard that album at all and they didn't play any songs from it.Dolo wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 8:11 amTotally. I don't think these guys have released a bad album yet. They did:
The Tempest
Slow Violence
Dream the Dead
Turntail
Oceanrise
Songs for No One
Bloom/Marigold
Graves
Both gigs were really intimate, the first night Sam was directly in front of me and so close I thought my fiance was going to knock himself out headbanging on Sam's knee lol. The second night was good too but the crowd sucked. They were excellent regardless. I got this pic of Jim which I really like.
