Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
Anybody here know how to play any Alter Bridge songs on guitar? I'm talking like you really can play the shit like Myles and Mark can play them.
How many or which ones do you know how to play?
Step further: Any of you in any AB cover bands by chance?

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I think you should put that in Musicians Unite section but yeah.
I do play AB stuff but I don't have enough guitars to cover all the tunings. A lot of the riffs and choruses are quite simple. The problem is with fingerpicking parts or solos.

Yes. So complicated at times that it's very hard to play. I can play Wonderful Life all the way through. But other than that, I just riff around. I can play most of Addicted To Pain... But that solo, lol.

If Justin is still around, I think he could pretty much fill in for Mark at a show if he needed a backup lol

I used to know a few from beginning to end, minus the guitar solos (Watch Over You, Ghost of Days Gone By, Coeur D' Alene, Fallout, Isolation) and have learned bits and pieces of quite a few more than that over the years. Ultimately I don't end up learning them just because of the inconvenience of all of the different tunings that they play their songs in.

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
Yeah. I play half step down. So anything they do in drop C# is easy to learn. But save for Farther Than The Sun, I've never messed around with the lower tunings.

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I use to be able to play them a lot better than I do now. I know I can still play ODR album while being a bit rough on a couple of the solos. I used to be able to most of the blackbird album. Those two albums I could probably do a refresher and play, the rest is more like a handful of songs from each album. I feel bad thing about how I used to be able to ARTS but now I can only remember like half the song let alone have the speed to play it all correctly.
Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I can play a fair number of songs from their first few albums including basically all of One Day Remains. Since leaving Uni, getting a job, and moving in with my (now) wife, I've unfortunately spent a lot less time playing guitar.
There are probably only a handful I would say I know well enough to play in entirety:

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I'm really not much of a guitarist, but I love to strum chords and sing. I do an open chord version of Watch Over You when I play local coffee shop / brewery type shows.
(Edit - by the way, the reason I do it open chord is mostly because it's easier to just bring one guitar, and I don't want to have to stop to retune the whole thing.)

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
Hell Ya I can play the shit out of AB songs.
First and foremost I have worked and continue to work on Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad for over ten years. On a really good day I can get it about 95% proficient, never 100% but that won't stop me from trying.
I can play the following near perfect:
The entire One Day Remains Album except Metalingus. I used to know it pretty good but havent played it in many years.
Blackbird Album:
Come to Life
Brand New STart
Buried ALive
Blackbird
Watch Over You
White Knuckles
New Way to Live
ABIII:
Isolation
Ghosts
Still Remains
Fortress:
Cry of Achilles
Bleed it Dry
Lover
The Uninvited
Farther Than the Sun
Cry a River
The Last Hero:
Poison in Your Veins

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I have a habit of learning every single song I ever hear, so I know a lot of these songs decently well.
About guitars: I kind of formed an obsession of playing Alter Bridge songs on my Mark Tremonti PRS (which we bought a year before I found out who he is). It's tuned to Standard D and its variants, so if I'm not playing along with the original song, I play on that. Besides, I think the songs that were originally in Eb, Drop C#, or Drop Bb sound better a half step down from those. If I am playing with the original song, then I play on my Minarik Diablo, which is tuned to half-step down.
I can play these songs decently well:
One Day Remains (minus solo)
Open Your Eyes (rearranged for Standard D, the solo is replaced with a harmony part that echoes the sing-along melody)
Burn It Down (including solo)
Metalingus
In Loving Memory (including the fingerstyle intro)
Down To My Last (minus solo)
Watch Your Words
Shed My Skin (standard tuned version, I haven't gotten around to learning it in the original tuning for some reason)
The End Is Here
Save Me
Ties That Bind (minus solo)
Come To Life (I typically improvise the solo)
Brand New Start (Myles's part)
Before Tomorrow Comes
Blackbird (both Myles's and Mark's parts, including solos)
Watch Over You (open chord version, like @TenaciousBe. It's also the only Alter Bridge song I can sing close to the original key.)
White Knuckles
Wayward One (minus solo)
Slip To The Void (including solos)
Isolation (including solo)
Ghost Of Days Gone By (Myles's part)
Still Remains
I Know It Hurts (minus solo, I wrote a different one for it that's much easier)
Show Me A Sign (including solos)
Fallout (including both Myles's and Mark's solos)
Breathe Again (Myles's part)
Coeur D'Alene (minus solo)
Words Darker Than Their Wings (rearranged for Drop C#)
Zero (minus solos)
Home (minus solo)
Cry Of Achilles (Myles's two solos I know completely, Mark's solo I know about half of it. I recorded an acoustic version with all three solos and the vocal parts I can reach, but it's not very good.)
Addicted To Pain (the first one I learned! I know the solo as well)
The Uninvited
Peace Is Broken (including solo)
Calm The Fire (both Myles's and Mark's parts)
Waters Rising (Mark's part including solo)
Cry A River (Mark's and Myles's parts, the main solo is kinda my own take on it)
All Ends Well
Fortress (including Mark's solos rearranged for Drop C#, haven't learned Myles's solos yet)
Show Me A Leader (Myles's part including solo, Mark's part including improvised solo)
The Writing On The Wall (including all solos)
Cradle To The Grave (including Myles's solo but not Mark's solo)
Losing Patience
Crows On A Wire (including solo)
Twilight (minus solo)
Island Of Fools (including Myles's solo)
The Last Hero (Myles's part including solo)
Last Of Our Kind (including solo)
Wouldn't You Rather (including about half the solo, for the other half I just play the Addicted To Pain solo and it sounds fine)
Godspeed (minus solo)
Native Son
Clear Horizon
Tear Us Apart
This Is War (including solo)
Dead Among The Living (including solo)
Silver Tongue
Sin After Sin (including both solos)
Stay (a mix of both guitarists' parts rearranged for Eb Standard)
Fable Of The Silent Son (Myles's part rearranged for Drop C#)
Pawns & Kings (minus solo)
If it's relevant, I know a lot of Tremonti songs as well.
I know riffs from a lot more songs as well.

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I learned Native Son front to back while doing a tab earlier this year, my first AB tab. Other than that, I don’t think I’ve learned a single song from front to back. I just did a tab for Indoctrination but haven’t really learned the solo at the end.
I know many pieces of songs of course. I almost never learn songs front to back unless I’m going to be performing on stage. I can play first half of Blackbird while singing even but still need to learn the bridge riff and solos. I’ve always loved All Hope is Gone and can do the same for that. I haven’t tried learning any Tremonti yet. I knew several Creed songs back in the day. I did know those front to back, but those aren’t nearly as challenging as the stuff Mark writes today!

Re: Anybody here play Alter Bridge songs on guitar?
I can play Find The Real minus the guitar solos (can't solo for the life of it). I also just taught myself Coeur D'Alene and I'm working on the solo. I have to retune my guitar because it was in the wrong tuning apparently.
Hopefully, I'll hone my craft more to be able to play more songs. I play by ear, so I'll only sit there and learn it if I really have the strength to replay the parts over and over until I turn blue in the face.

Not Alter Bridge, but Tremonti. I learned the guitar solo for Dust last night.

Is there a Mark's solo where he uses legato but quite frugally so you're not overwhelmed by the complexity of the licks and the tempo is not ridiculously high so you can play all the way through without spending weeks learning it? It feels like anything I tackle from him is so demanding in terms of the notes choice and speed it makes me give up after a while. I would love to up my legato game but whatever this guy does give me a headache.

Honestly, as strange as it may seem of an answer, I would say Blackbird.Dolo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 4:34 pm Is there a Mark's solo where he uses legato but quite frugally so you're not overwhelmed by the complexity of the licks and the tempo is not ridiculously high so you can play all the way through without spending weeks learning it? Maybe, the Royal Albert Hall version of Slip To The Void could fall under this category.

So the licks at 5:29 and 5:52 are simple in your opinion?Addicted To Pain wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 4:46 pm Honestly, as strange as it may seem of an answer, I would say Blackbird.
The former one I've tried and sort of incorporated into my playing, but I need to warm up for like 30 minutes before I can play it flawlessly
