All I Was Tunings

Post by bringthebass »

So here is what I got for guitar tunings. I think Mark made a slight gaffe in the last interview he gave regarding guitar tunings. There's like 6 songs in Drop B and like 5 in Drop C#. Then there's two in Open B5, and one in D standard.

Leave it Alone - Drop B
So You're Afraid- Drop C#
Wish you Well- Drop C#
Brains- Open B5
Things I've Seen- D Standard
You Waste Your Time- Drop C#
New Way Out- Open B5
Giving Up- Drop B
Proof- Drop B
All I Was- Drop C#
Doesn't Matter- Drop C#
Decay- Drop B

Bonus tracks?
Drop B

Do you know if that's the conventional Drop B (B F# B E G# Db)
Or is it the Drop B Tremonti uses in Alter Bridge? (B A D G B E) ?

Conventional drop B, cuz he's using his baritone guitar on those songs.

I posted in the Tremonti forum, but I think "Brains" is the other song in open B5. Listen to those notes in the intro; they ring out far too much to be easily played in drop B.

Yeah I need to change that. I figured that out yesterday.

'New Way Out' is infact Open D5, here's proof from the man himself,

He said there was an Open D5 song on the record in an interview a few weeks ago too if I recall.

So You're Afraid is in Standard down 1 and 1/2 steps (C#-Standard I believe?).

So the original list is correct except for So You're Afraid and Doesn't Matter being in Standard down 1 and 1/2 steps.

Just to get this straight:

Leave it Alone - Drop B
So You're Afraid - C# Standard
Wish you Well - Drop C#
Brains - Open B5
Things I've Seen - D Standard
You Waste Your Time - Drop C#
New Way Out - Open B5
Giving Up - Drop B
Proof - Drop B
All I Was- Drop C#
Doesn't Matter - C# Standard
Decay - Drop B

But.... look at the SYA tuning on the left sheet in the photo from Ernie's desk. Isn't that says: B Standard?

Looks like Mark might be tuning some of the songs down live to compensate for the strain on his voice.

That or the one on the left is erock, the only reason I say that is cause it says baritone and erock was the only one that used one.
