Playing 'Ladylike' and 'All Fall Down' must be hell of a fun! :)

So I had a thought the other day. One of my favorite songs back in my high school days was Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me." Fun song, plays great on an acoustic (especially if you can get the finger picking down - I'm just learning it by strumming chords in the rhythm of the original picking). But I'm wondering how that would come across in a live setting? Would it be weird for a dude to sing that song? Or would people take it as a joke or anything?

I'm still learning to play but here are the first few I'm attempting...

Staind - Reply
Hal Ketchum - Small Town Saturday Night
Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel

I'd like to get good enough to play Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. But between two kids and a full time job I'm taking it one step at a time.

some of these songs have caused panty-droppage in the past:

red jumpsuit - guardian angel
saving abel - addicted
three days grace - wake up, never too late
daughtry - home, over you
hinder - lips of an angel, better than me
seether - broken
skillet - yours to hold
12 stones - lie to me
linkin park - the little things give you away

I'll admit that the picking in the verses of 'All Fall Down' is a bitch to play while singing. I've got a bit of a different arrangement on 'Ladylike' too where I use an Open D with a slide that's a blast to play. I'll have to practice those up and bring em back.

Hahha, I had a pretty decent arrangement for that one, too. If I had a better webcam I'd pull it off. Maybe I'll play with a recording program or something and work up a take of it.

If you're just staring out I would recommend Everything Changes by Staind. Super easy to play, nice sounding chords and for me always gets a good response.

^ Great song. I always enjoyed playing lead in that when my buddy and I used to play it.

It's the first song I ever played live at my first show so it's always going to have a kinda special place in the set. It's simple but has a cool vibe to it.

Found my capo, so I've been playing around with a couple new ones. Mad World, the Gary Jules cover of the Tears For Fears song (though, energy-wise, I'm somewhere in the middle between the two versions). And Free Fallin, which is fun and super easy but does feel like it's missing something not having the full band behind it.

<3 this song. I'm so rusty I don't think I can play any of my old songs all the way through anymore, but I definitely remember this one.

Jim - How is Amaryllis? It's my favorite song on the new album, and it sounds like it's pretty fun to play.

Side note - when that song was first released, I had a friend who was legit convinced he was singing "fuck me like that" and was flabbergasted that it was on the radio. :lol

Is it played on a 12 string on the album? I'm not completely sure, but the tone sounds kind of thick to me.

Hahaha, just noticed that. Yeah, I started the list in 2008 for open mics and have just been adding songs since I've learned them.. which is why you see a lot more folky/bluesy stuff towards the end. Alphabetizing would totally tidy things up a bit, hah.

If You Only Knew by Shinedown is a lot of fun to play if you're nice and warmed up vocally.

Yeah definitely, that's one of my openers. Any Shinedown song is fun to do.
