None of the new songs made impact on me, and that's the way I use to rate albums.

Ok album.

Most of it sounds like Slash songs.

I've had the time today to give the record a couple listens. Holy moley, I'm immediately digging this album much more than I did Year Of The Tiger. Not quite as guitar centric as Myles made it out to be, but what it is is fantastic.

Wake Me When It's Over has Slash and the Conspirators written all over it. The bouncy rock riff is so uplifting. I'm renting a truck this week and this tune really put the pedal to the metal...

Love Rain Down gives me serious City & Colour vibes and makes me dream of a Myles collab with Dallas Green.

"Cause in times like these we must live and learn..."

That one moment in A Thousand Words (maybe my favorite track) very oddly reminds me of 90s Warren Zevon... I'm not even sure why, Zevon just hit me on that one line Myles sings.

And finally, the title track. Epic, sprawling, masterful... The Ides Of March is breathtaking. Some of the low harmonies that Myles sings in the chorus almost had me fooled into thinking Mark made an uncredited appearance on the album! I'd actually love to hear Alter Bridge play this song...

The instrumentation, the writing, Myles' voice is in top shape... I'm thoroughly enjoying The Ides Of March!

Man, I may end up being a minority here, but I have to talk up Moonshot. It took me a few listens, but when it clicks, it clicks. Everything just sounds great. You can hear everything, and it all blends nicely together. That song legit comforts me.

I’m really digging this album so far. Standout of mine is A Thousand Words and Worried Mind.

Gonna give it a couple more play throughs to give the album a fair opinion

Really interesting to see how varied the opinions are so far. That always happens when a new album comes out, but the responses all seem more different than usual.

All tracks score a DR5 on the Dynamic Range Meter, which means it's heavily compressed.
If you're not familiar with it, 1 means it's just a wall of noise, and 20 means it's insanely dynamic.
Most modern albums score a DR5 or DR6.
25 years ago, you could find CD's with a score above DR10.
Classical music and jazz album can reach a DR15 or DR16.
On the other hand, Death Magnetic scored a DR3.
Here are the AB scores if you're interested:

I took a few listens and despite not finding many standout songs, it's an enjoyable album and quite relaxing actually, which is a good thing.
Moonshot is pretty great, The Ides of March, Love Rain Down, Worried Mind are fantastic, I can see Myles extending these last two live.

On a side note, it's good to finally hear some bass lines in an Elvis production.

It's mostly on the louder moments and on the vocals that Elvis's influence is obvious. For the rest I think it's one of the better albums he's done lately. Because of the nature of the album, the production of the vocals is a pretty big deal though.

Really enjoying this record. It's a grower for sure but man, it's so good. Wanderlust Begins, Worried Mind, Wake Me When It's Over, Love Rain Down and A Thousand Words are my favorites.

I finally got a chance to listen to this album front to back quite a few times, no track skipping, and I have to say this album is just a great listen. The album flows nicely, bringing the energy and taking it back down at all the right moments. Some of the songs are definitely growers. Everyone was talking up Worried Mind, but it only just clicked for me today. Only track I'm still not clicking with fully is Tell It Like It Is, and it's still a great track. Favorites are Moonshot, Ides of March, Get Along, Wanderlust Begins, A Thousand Words, Love Rain Down, and Worried Mind.

Just noticed, I don't think we have a single deny on this album.

Time to pull out the detective gear. 🕵️‍♂️

After a quick read through of the lyrics I can confirm that there isnt a single deny on this record :lol

Does this mean theres gonna be an overload of denies on Tremonti V or AB VII? 👀😂

Maybe Myles has finally ran out of things to deny! 🤔😱
