Album Rankings - Tremonti-only

Post by Crumbso »

So, with MiT having matured with us for a good few months now. I think we can do a bit of a ranking of T's solo albums. Mine is:

1. Dusterize/Cauterust
2. Dying Machine
3. Marching in Time
4. All I Was

I feel that the Cauterize and Dust pair was when Tremonti, as a band, was at its most unique and distinct. It's still a very energetic and raw feeling album that likes to take some risks in tempo and mood changes, if not song structure. It built on All I Was, which felt a little too unsure of itself, but still had that excitement of being new. I really think that Wolfie did add to the album greatly, both instrumentally and vocally. These albums also contain maybe Mark's best solo ever, that being Dust (rivalled by Blackbird).

A Dying Machine is more mature and perhaps a little too polished but still has the overarching concept and feel tying it all together. There are some truly standout moments there and it does feel like a complete work that I still really enjoy.

Marching in Time is great but I just find myself not going back to it as much as the ones above it in the listing. I like an awful lot of it, and it is a very good album, but I just don't feel the same excitement from it as the others.

All I Was, is also good but it just feels too unsure of itself. There are some true classics on the album, like You Waste Your Time and Wish You Well, but the album as a whole doesn't stick with me. I just come back to the singles. Mark's also seems to try and hide his voice a bit too much.

Pretty impossible to do for me as I think all of his stuff sounds kinda samey but it would go like this if somebody forced me:

1. A Dying Machine
2. Cauterize
3. Dust/Marching in Time
4. All I Was

1. A Dying Machine
2. All I Was
3. Marching In Time
4. Dusterize

Dust and Cauterize had a couple of great songs. If they'd combined both albums into one, this would have been a great album. Instead we got 2 meh albums. But this was discussed a couple of times on this forum before.

I put All I Was on #2 because I really enjoyed the guitar riffs and the heavier style in general. There are barely any songs on the other albums which have the aggressiveness of Wish You Well, Brains or Decay.

Same ranking as you Crumbs, if I had to split up Cauterize and Dust it would probably be:

A Dying Machine
Cauterize
Dust
Marching in Time
All I Was

Desolation is still far and away my favourite song of his, and I think ADM also has the highest bottom level.
For all of the hope that it brings...

A Dying Machine
Marching In Time
Dust
Cauterize
All I Was

I think he’s been at the top of his game on the past two albums. I think Dust is overall a better album compared to Cauterize, but they’re pretty similar since it all came from the same session.

All I Was was great at its time, but his voice has grown a lot since then.

Here's mine...

1) A Dying Machine
2) Marching in Time
3) Dust/Cauterize (joint 3rd as I think each album has an even split of 5 songs I like, and 5 songs I'm not overly fussed with)
4) All I Was

How would people rank the title tracks of each album? Is it consistent with how you'd rank the albums?

I'd go...

1) Dust
2) A Dying Machine
3) Marching in Time
4) Cauterize
5) All I Was

---Leave it Alone has one of my favorite guitar solos.

---The songs A dying machnine and marching in time kinda drag. Like they have 3-4 choruses each and theres not a lot of differenes between the choruses. Just copy and paste. Thats not always bad but its nice when things get mixed up a little. Like cutting the first chorus in half or having a 2nd guitar coming in or something.

---All That I Got and Gone are pretty good for not being on any albums.

---Proof has some solid verses and New Way Out is a great ballad.

---Dark Trip, Desolation, Now or Never, and Arm Yourself are solid.

---Not sure if the marching in time album does much for me but the Last One of Us is pretty good i think.

I’m with you Uninvited.. all records meant so much to be at different parts of my life but my rankings would be..

1. A Dying Machine
2. Marching In Time
3. Dust
4. Cauterize
5. All I Was

His voice has just gotten so much better over the years and ADM/MIT show that more so than the others. Although I do love the guitar work in the first 3 albums compared to the previous two. They’re all so, so good so it’s hard to rank them individually.

1. A Dying Machine
2. Dust
3. Marching In Time
4. Cauterize
5. All I Was

A Dying Machine is by far the most interesting Tremonti album. Don't think much more needs to be said about it since most people have put it at the top.

Dust was a better version of Cauterize, and I tend to listen to tracks off that more than Marching In Time. Cauterize and MIT are hard to split - I prefer more of the songs on Cauterize but MIT has the better songwriting overall.

All I Was sounds dated.

4. Cauterize/Dust
3. All I Was
2. A Dying Machine
1. Marching in Time

Marching in Time is going to be one of my favorite albums of this decade. Mark knocked it out of the park there. The title track is among his best material in his career.

Ok, this is a really hard choice to me. I'm always changing, but right now my ranking is the next one:

1. Cauterize
2. Marching In Time
3. All I Was
4. A Dying Machine
5. Dust
The simple man receiving, defending every crime
Somehow still believing they're alright, so hypnotized...

I haven't heard the song All I Was.

Well, for me this is much harder as it is with Alter Bridge - no weak albums with Tremonti.

1. All I was
2. ADM
3. MIT / Dusterize
