nice, thanks. interesting to see how the recording process was for the album. I feel like though scott, tremonti and kurzweg weren't in the same room at the time of the interview - like it was a put together piece of their own separate phone calls.

In case you've not seen it in the AB subforum, here's an interview with brian where he talks about Creed's early days and writing songs with Mark.
As usual with him, it's a great read!
there was a point in my journey where I wasn’t with Creed for Weathered (2001). That was a kind of a dark period in my life, I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was living in Orlando and built a studio in my house eventually. I was resentful of Creed for a while. It wasn’t a very pleasant experience because Scott and I really had our differences; the band had to make a choice at that point, and we just parted ways.
Without stepping on anything, as a bass player, I try to do everything I can without overplaying. At the end of the day, I love when there is space in a song, but Mark tends to write at blazing speed. (Laughs) As a bass player, that makes it tough to really take the bass for a walk; you have to stick with what is happening there musically. When there is space I feel like that is where I can venture off in a different partner, but still stick in the same melodic phasing that is happening with the guitars and vocals.

It always seems like it’s so rushed because we’re on a timeline. I really wish I could have more time with the band as a whole to develop the songs. I’ll take the songs away from the writing process and sit down with it, but it’s just not the same. When you’re playing with the band, that’s when things start to gel. Once your comfortable with a song you can start to experiment with it more. That happens for me a lot on tour. The song is recorded one way, but then on tour you say, “Now I’m doing this and I like it so much better than how I recorded it.”

I think that is the beaut of how My Own Prison (1997) was made, we were able to develop that record over 2-3 years. It had time to develop. When I go back to listen to that album I can tell I had time with it. I don’t think I would do anything particularly different on that album.

It was about an hour length podcast interview. Stapp goes in depth about the early days of creed, how they formed and his youth. In regards to what he says about creed, he says he doesn't consider them broken up. Just on a hiatus. He says he doesn't see any reason why creed shouldn't get back together as long as its organic.
Here's the link.

If you're a Creed fan, you've gotta listen to that interview.
I've never heard him talk so much about their early days.

Since Creed's comeback has been announced, Stapp has done a few interviews, and I think he should stop saying so much about his feelings and just pretend everything's fantastic, just like Mark has been doing.
"Well, I have to say that I didn't know that anything would happen beyond the cruises. I was kind of looking at it as, 'Let's feel it out. Let's see how the cruises go. And then let's make some decisions after that.' But I think that once we got together and did a [photo shoot], the managers were kind of saying, 'All right. Here's this opportunity. Let's do this. Let's do that,' it definitely made me feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger, if you will, on moving forward with that."

According to Stapp, he initially "had hesitation" about committing to a CREED tour because "I had a solo record that was probably the most arduous labor of love that felt like everything in the world that could possibly come against me getting this record done, in every area of my life, so I was, like, 'Man, I wanna promote this record,'" he explained. "And so, after having some long conversations with management and then getting together with the guys and feeling their vibe with the cruises, I realized that they all can live together. [CREED guitarist Mark Tremonti] is doing [select shows and recordings with] the [Frank] Sinatra thing, and they've got other things, I'm sure, that they're gonna be releasing. And so it just helps everything else. But, again, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this initial positivity translates into the dynamic of the band, because I tell you what — if we can get our hearts and our spirits and our minds back to where we were as a unit in '94, '95, '96, I tell you, we may just go out there, when the time is right, and write the best CREED album we've ever done. That's where my heart is. And so we'll see what happens."
source: https://blabbermouth.net/news/scott-sta ... union-tour
Pressed about whether he wants CREED to be an ongoing thing or if it's just a reunion to reconnect after 10 years, Scott said: "Well, it's evolved. I'll be honest with you — initially I was taking it, like, 'All right, let's do the cruises and then let's kind of see what happens from there.' But the reception was so incredible, and, like I explained before, everything that was going on viral, the tour just got presented to us and we couldn't say no, especially with the positive interaction that was happening with the band behind the scenes."

He continued: "I really am hoping that all this positive energy and positive mindset and just collective mindset that this is something that we finally need to really cherish and nurture and really give our fans what they want, and that it actually benefits everything else we're doing as well. There's definitely been some dialogue and some conversations about this being something that continues. But again, there's still a little bit of that 'let's see how it goes' kind of deal. So I think part of us are in the moment, the excitement of this, 'Let's make this something we do all the time,' and then the other half of us is, 'All right. Well, let's see how it goes.' So with both of those head spaces kind of living together, I think that's a positive recipe. So if everyone just shows up with that right attitude, I think — not to sound cliché, but it is cliché — I think the best is yet to come for CREED."
source: https://blabbermouth.net/news/scott-sta ... gonna-flow

We don't need to know he had hesitations at first.
We don't need to know things were a bit lukewarm at first between him and the guys when they did that photoshoot.
We especially don't need to hear him say "Let's make this something we do all the time", considering Alter Bridge and the other projects aren't go away.
But what we need to hear is that he supports Alter Bridge and Tremonti. The fact the he still refers to them as "other things" makes me believe he hasn't changed a bit despite what he says.

I think you're paying a little bit too much attention to semantics here, I think he's still quite aware of AB and Tremonti and frankly there is no need for him to 'support' them. Obviously he's not happy that they exist as they take up a lot of space and time that could be used for Creed.

Openly supporting those projects would probably please Mark a lot.
And Creed's future only depends on him.
My piece of advice for Stapp is to try and become "one of the guys" in the Tremonti inner circle. Just support everything they do, and try and make it seem genuine for once, instead of this passive-aggressive communication style that ruined the first reunion in 2012.

Eh, I don't really care. I agree with Stapp. I'm tired of pretending Alter Bridge is good. TLH and P&K are lyrical political trash and I can't enjoy the music because of it. I can slightly enjoy Walk the Sky because most of the lyrics are vague or about different subjects. But it's clear AB's best time pretty much ended with Fortress. If you're asking me if I have a choice between a AB record or a Tremonti record - I'm picking Tremonti. Or AB vs a Creed record I'm picking a Creed record. Full Circle is better than Pawns and Kings. I'm talking lyrically. I just can't stand Myles' current lyrical political trends and I can't enjoy the music to be honest.

However, Stapp not mentioning AB by name is something he's always done. But it seems this time around he realizes Creed is a third wheel and when it comes to expectations it's a good thing he realizes that because when the tour is over and there is no more for another year or two - who knows- the band won't break up again.

I actually agree with you and I know we're in the vast minority on this board, lol, but I've gotten to the point that I can't stand the lyrics that Myles writes. I actually think Mark is the best lyricist between him, Stapp and Myles now.

I agree with you. Tremonti is an excellent lyricist and singer. He doesn't need either of them imo.

Is it that clear? Like does the majority think that is the case when it comes to AB. Like that's a clear fact? I doubt that. Now do you personally think their best days are behind them? I can believe that. I personally think Shinedown's best days are behind them since Amaryllis, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy some songs and albums from them nowadays. Same goes for AB, but I still enjoy Pawns & Kings and Walk the Sky just as much as the 1st four albums.

As for Creed, I think they can deliver a quality album, but I wish people would quell their expectations on how the quality is going to go. These people's headspace cannot go back to the mid-late 90s as much as people would think that would be the answer in delivering a quality album. That said, I think, much like AB in the now, they don't need to go and deliver a game-changing album. They just need to express how they are as musicians and as people, now, and let the music reflect that with the right amount of investment and care.

As for Stapp not, for a lack of a better word, name-dropping AB or Tremonti, it's hard to have a stance on that. It's not like people need to hear Myles say, "I support Mark, Flip, and Brian doing Creed." On the other hand, all of those bands are under the same umbrella of management and Tim Tournier's statement on Facebook (that some people seem to not like for whatever reason) when the cruises were announced stating that everyone supports all the projects is validating enough to me.
*What’s that mean, it means that when time allows for all parties we will do stuff together. This has been in the works for 4 years.
*AB, Tremonti, SMKC, MK Solo, Stapp solo will all continue. Everyone fully supports each other.
This is good enough for me. I don't think people necessarily need Stapp to state that everyone supports everyone's other bands on and on and quite frankly, if he did, everyone would be sick of him making that statement as well. He can't win that way.

Since he recovered from his public meltdown, Stapp has referenced Alter Bridge by name multiple times. The best one I can immediately think of is during Art of Anarchy. He expressed liking multiple outlets for his ideas, much like Mark has with Alter Bridge, Tremonti and Creed. Hell, even before his meltdown, there's a 2014 interview on Youtube where he is directly asked what his thoughts are on Myles Kennedy and he had nothing but praise for him. I'll link it if anyone wants to watch. I think Stapp knows how immature he was about referring to AB and Myles as "the other project/singer" and he's passed that.

As for the dissection of everything else, I don't have anything to say on that. Just PR semantics that are being over analyzed by a bored fanbase. The hesitation comment is literally explained in that interview. He's hesitant because he doesn't Higher Power to be swept under the rug by Creed's reception.

Tremonti was asked how difficult it was for him to dodge questions about a possible CREED reunion in the months leading up to the official announcement last July. He said: "Yeah. You just have to definitely be almost like a politician when you're talking about it. You've gotta say, 'Oh, you never know. When the timing is right.' You have your lines that you'll have in case that question comes up. And to be honest, we've been planning stuff and talking since before COVID about when the timing would be right. And when COVID hit, it kind of derailed things.

^^^^ They have a rubric to follow as far as how they promote things. I guarantee a new Creed album is coming out this year. Its probably already finished

I was thinking the same thing. Love the guys, but you can’t believe a thing they say regarding future plans. Would not shock me if they’ve got an album ready to go. It actually makes more sense than them not having one ready. Especially if all this has been in the works since pre-covid.

I don't do bets lol and I can admit when I'm wrong. Believe what you want but by the end of this year I will revisit this thread to hold you to my point.
