I knew Words was gonna slay this one, but I voted The Damage Done. It's just a better song to me.

Words. Amazing song, almost as good as Blackbird. Myles kills it with his vocals in the final part and, well, throughout the whole song. Masterpiece.

I remember the first time I listened to Words. I rushed home from school that day because I had heard all of the hype about the song and I turned it on. My first thought was "This guitar is so AB. They're back." As I learned more about the song it really clicked with me. I can understand someone not really liking it if it doesn't connect to them, but if it does then you understand the emotional attachment that soon builds

The repeating lyrics in the chorus of Words always puts me off. I feel like they could've been a bit more creative there.

Well, many Alter Bridge songs contain some sort of repeating lyrics in the chorus - including Fortress, Cry of Achilles, Come to Life, Ties That Bind, Rise Today, Open Your Eyes... don't you like those songs either?

I mean - no offense (; but in the end it's just the word "light" that's used three times, but the actual lines are different.

I think that's the most creative part of the chorus. To me it's kind of the same set up as the verse. Back and forth between Myles and Mark. "Into the light may you fall" is like Mark saying "Come into the light (faith) and your darkness (doubt) will fall" and "into the light may you follow" is like Myles responding "I can't just follow blindly into the light" and the last line brings them both together "into the light may you know truth alone" is like mark saying "come into the light and you will know the truth" and Myles saying "I can only follow into the light having the truth". At least that's how I always connected with it. Open for interpretation I suppose.

I honestly think that Words Darker Than Their Wings, from the beginning to the end, has got the greatest vocals melody of any Alter Bridge song - especially in the chorus. The cooperation of Myles and Mark is just pure perfection and I don't remember Myles singing any song more emotional than this one.

I mean - no offense (; but in the end it's just the word "light" that's used three times, but the actual lines are different.
Ties that Bind:
1. One last hope, to rise and break away, above the faded line
Way beyond the ties that bind

2. This I know, the risk is worth the gain, it's worth the sacrifice
Way beyond the ties that bind

Cry Of Achilles
1. Don’t close your eyes, something beautiful is still alive
2. Don’t close your eyes, never turn away and let it die

Compare those lyrics with:

WDTTW
1. Into the light may you fall, into the light may you follow, into the light may you know,
Truth alone

2. Into the light may you fall, into the light may you follow, into the light may you know,
Truth alone

Can you see the difference? That's what I'm talking about. The other songs have elements that come back, but they don't just copy the first part of the chorus.

Yeah, I know what you mean, they simply play the chorus two times in Words, exactly like they do in Rise Today, for example.

Well, I wouldn't really call Rise Today's chorus a lyrical masterpiece. I think Zero is the only other song in AB's catalog where they do this (next to Words and Rise Today), and in that song the first chorus is cut in half.

It may not seem like a big deal, but I feel like Word's chorus had a lot more potential.

WHAT? RISE TODAY NOT A LYRICAL MASTERPIECE? :crazy

All jesting aside, I can understand your point. Personally, I don't care about the repeating lyrics 'cause I love that chorus so much, but I can see that someone who doesn't connect with it in the way I do could be hacked off by them.

Well, that's kinda why I'm bummed out by it. I really connect with the song, being an atheist who's been raised by fundamentalist christians (and who has to deal with that daily).

But I'm glad that you enjoy it! :)

Wow, I can imagine that's pretty hard. I'm an atheist, too, but fortunately my family isn't that religious either. The family of my girlfriend is, however. I'm looking forward to such things like christening, 'cause I'd like my potential children to not be christened as long as they don't want to once they've grown up. That's how my parents did it and I'm glad about it.

Are they Catholic? My parents are Protestants, so I never got baptized. I'm glad I got that choice :)

Well, if it's really important to your girlfriend, I think it's perfectly possible to have your children christened at a young age while still giving them a very open-minded upbringing.
But good luck with whatever you decide to do with it! I think we're derailing the thread a bit :lol

WDTTW is such an amazing song, never really caught on to Damage Done, it's nice and catchy, but WDTTW is just wonderful, nabbed my vote and contributed to it winning haha
