I enjoyed Fortress alot. I think they just thought Fortress was a cool name and was very symbolic/representative towards the rest of the album. I don't think they thought it was really the greatest song, because from what I understand they have raved CoA a lot more.
I really love the chorus on CoA but the verses will have to grow on me. Really digging Lover, All Ends Well, Calm the Fire...... Farther Than The Sun still my instant favorite though.
I think I need to listen to the last few songs of the album over again. I think I was still reeling from the excellence of the first few, and the last ones just didn't hit me. I'm listening to Fortress again and it is growing on me fast.
1. Calm the Fire
2. Waters Rising
3. Cry of Achilles
4. Fortress
5. All Ends Well
6. Farther Than The Sun
7. The Uninvited
8. Peace is Broken
9. Addicted to Pain
10. Cry a River
11. Bleed it Dry
12. Lover
Cry of Achilles is my favorite track, just decided it. Second favorite all-time track behind Blackbird, nothing will top that track because of my connection with it. Many songs on this record pushed that envelope, though.
Well, I've narrowed it down as much as I can and I've got to Cry of Achilles, Lover, Calm the Fire and Fortress. They're all 10s as far as I'm concerned right now.
The Uninvited keeps pulling me back in... Every time I hear that chorus it pumps me up... And the bridge/end is fantastic vocally by Myles... Just the creepy ins and outs of that song make it really hammer hard when the chorus kicks in...
Man, tough choice.
