Listened to more new Alter Bridge songs this week!

Island Of Fools was a bit underwhelming, but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to notice what's really good about it. I'll definitely give it another chance.

This Side Of Fate is really creepy. Plus, I think the 6/8 epics are cliché by now. I don't even think there was much symphony audible in the Live At The Royal Albert Hall version.

My Champion exceeded my expectations! Sure, it's cheesy, but at this point in my life I like those kind of songs.

I also had the chance to revisit some songs through listening to the entire Live At The Royal Albert Hall album this week.

The Other Side is still as disgusting as it was first time I heard it.

Lover is another scary one. What makes the live version more interesting is the break where it's just Myles singing.

Broken Wings isn't as bad as I used to think it was. It's just not up to my standards.

Blackbird may just as well be my favorite song that I don't listen to anymore. It's too sad for me right now as I'm in the emotional healing process for a while now. Maybe once I get out of that phase, I can reintroduce it to my playlists.

Since I usually don't sleep at night, I want to make a playlist of new Alter Bridge songs to listen to so I can kill some time. Bleed It Dry and Indoctrination are the only ones I'm sure about putting on there. What else? 3-6 more songs.

Well, since nobody responded, I made the playlist by myself. Then I had three nights of sleeping really well, and I never got to listen to it!

Here are the songs that are on the playlist. We'll see when I have time to listen to it one night.

1. Bleed It Dry
2. Indoctrination
3. Take The Crown
4. The Bitter End
5. You Will Be Remembered
6. Save Me
7. Show Me A Sign

On a side note, there was a time yesterday when I had nothing better to do, so I listened to Indoctrination. It could do without the synth and modulated drums in the intro, and also the bridge is confusing. Otherwise, it's an okay song.

How are they modulated? Sound pretty standard to me. And the synth adds another quality to it as well.

The open hi-hat in the intro doesn't sound very natural.

Once again I had nothing better to do, so I listened to Bleed It Dry! Now I've listened to the whole Fortress album.
The song is more of a ballad with just some unfitting intro. It's not as bad as I thought, but not something that would end up on my playlist. Also, Bb minor is my least favorite key, so with a few exceptions, I generally don't like songs in that key (Broken Wings, The Other Side, and Bleed It Dry for example).

8:13 EDIT: I listened to Take The Crown as well! Now that one is good!

Man, I love Bleed it Dry. The brutality of that main riff compared with the quiet interlude and emotional solo are so Alter Bridge. Plus the chords in the interlude are lovely. I believe Myles referred to them as 'expensive chords' :lol

It's not just an intro, the whole song revolves around that destructive guitar riff.

Or a hearing disorder

That had to be a typo.

It's more like a heavy, dark ballad. It's pretty slow, and in 6/8 time.

Just listened to The Bitter End, and it sounds happy. Why is it called The Bitter End then? Anyways, I like it.

It's... The first line of the chorus?

Yes, a hearing disorder

You can blame that on me not hearing it on my terrible phone speakers.

That interlude and solo is really incredible work. The solo is up there with blackbird for my money.

maximzub wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:26 pm I think you're right about In The Deep, but Indoctrination is in Drop C, which isn't that low. I'll go back and fix the lowest tuning fact. What did you think of the others?
I think we ironed this out in the tuning thread already, but Indoctrination must be played in A# standard (6 semitones down across the guitar). Myles probably plays in Drop A# (-6 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1). It couldn't be in Drop C (meaning Drop D 2 semitones down?). That wouldn't make sense at all. Once the drums enter, the main riff goes from single notes to power chords and there's no way to play it without the 5th string tuned down the same 6 half steps as the 6th string, so that puts it in A# standard rather than Drop A#.

As you've already agreed, In the Deep is deeper at 8 semitones down, but Show Me a Leader is the original deepest song on a 7 string 3 semitones down (putting the lowest string at the same G# as In the Deep).

My new contract is incredible! It’s 80-90 degrees here. I’ve made friends already. Cannot wait to swim with the Manatees in Crystal River... it’s on my agenda for all day Sunday. I am Incredibly blessed to be here! It’s so peaceful and beautiful and housing is so reasonable!

I just can’t express how excited I am to have this experience.
