Favourite epic songs
You can chose 3 songs.
I know some of you will argue The End is Here and New Way to Live don't rank as epics, but despite his shorter length, The End is Here always felt as one to me, and New Way to Live is one of their most unusual songs structure-wise, and it's 5:40 long.

Re: Favourite epic songs
This Side of Fate is probably the most artificially crafted AB song ever. It gives the impression of epic, while it is just a mishmash of some ideas hastily put together. It just doesn't feel like a "whole" song... I like the idea of Show Me a Sign being included as an epic song, though. Such an underrated track.

Cry of Achilles
Blackbird
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Blackbird
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Rock Never Dies
Thanks for the sig Don Harry!
Re: Favourite epic songs
THANK YOU for including Show Me A Sign! That song is the definition of epicness, regardless of whether a lot of people find it boring.
It's actually extremely hard to choose three of these amazing songs. Blackbird is in there, of course, and Show Me A Sign definitely is for me as well. The third one is almost a tie between Words, Cry Of Achilles and This Side Of Fate, but ultimately, Words takes the third slot. It's a unique and amazing song, and the ending is without a doubt one of the greatest things AB have ever written.
So, in order:
1 - Blackbird
2 - Show Me A Sign
3 - Words Darker Than Their Wings

Re: Favourite epic songs
What really constitutes 'epic' though? I would personally think that only Blackbird, COA, 4TRESS, TSOF, & TLH would count as epics because every other song below 6minutes for them are really just average AB tunes. Words can count though obviously because it's Words. If a song like TEIH counts as an epic, you might as well count every song that's longer than it, too.
Anyways, I chose Blackbird, WDTTW, and TSOF

Re: Favourite epic songs
By the way, no Cradle To The Grave? I'd define that as epic as well, especially with TEIH making this list.

Re: Favourite epic songs
To be honest, I hesitated about including Cradle to the Grave and Burn it Down.
For 3 minutes or so, Cradle doesn't sound epic at all. It's just a longer song overall.

Re: Favourite epic songs
Burn It Down would actually be a good song to include as well. It's not one of my favourites, but I'd say it's epic. About Cradle... I guess that's really a matter of taste. For me, it's epic from the beginning to the end, it just has this special AB vibe that their other epics have as well.chtimixeur wrote:To be honest, I hesitated about including Cradle to the Grave and Burn it Down.

Epic is personal. Choosing therefore should always include the complete song catalogue. Now we are limited to vote for your Epics only.

Re: Favourite epic songs
Looks really solid! I'd probably put Lover in there and exclude Burn It Down and Calm The Fire, but I think they're justified in any 'epic AB tracks' list.

Couldn't disagree more about this, but hey that's what personal taste is for.coldenscence wrote:This Side of Fate is probably the most artificially crafted AB song ever. Anyway, I picked Blackbird, This Side of Fate, and New Way to Live as of this moment. I was torn between New Way to Live, The End Is Here, Cry of Achilles, and Fortress though...all 4 of them are about equal to me.

Based on the options provided: BB, CoA, and TLH
Interesting topic though, the definition of "epic" certainly seems to be a moving one.

Blackbird, Cry of Achilles, and This Side of Fate. Fortress barely edged out here.
