If anything, I'm glad that they don't feel the need to push for more epics. The epics on TLH felt kinda hollow to me. ODR is still a beloved classic amongst most fans, despite the lack of epics.

What about Dust? Love Can Only Heal definitely has the dynamics and length. I would say the Great Beyond is arguable.

I'm not sure that I know of Dust, but I wouldn't give epic status to The Great Beyond or Love Can Only Heal. They are absolutely excellent songs and there isn't even a shred of a fraction of a star that is being diminished from them when I state they aren't epics (case in point, even though I like Love more, I think Beyond is closer to epic status), but I just don't describe them as such.

Just state your opinions like others do.

I state my opinions which differ people get salty, but im the child......ok then. I started this place by saying i loved TLH which i got told that i am wrong for liking it. If i could just state my opinion without backhanded bs that would be new and different.
There’s nothing wrong with TLH being your favorite album (that’s actually cool to hear that record brought in some new fans, or maybe you’re an old fan that just gravitated towards that album). But a lot of people rank it towards the bottom of the pack. I see you talk negatively about some of their other albums as much as other members talk negatively about TLH, so I don’t see how you’re different than anyone else here lol

I second this. You need to listen to Dust. Like right now. Stop what you're doing. Listen to Dust.

The solo in Dust is one of the best solos Mark has ever done.

I dont go out of my way to bash the other albums i like them all period . What i dont understand is how people can hate so much on the TLH and gush about the rest i dont get it. It normally comes as a response to it. If people dont like it cool but i feel some here go out of their way to bash on it. Anyway like i said i like all of them just prefer the more rock oriented feel of TLH and Fortress

And there’s nothing wrong with liking those albums the most (I know a lot of us love Fortress). You’ll find a lot of people on the internet lining up to say your opinion is crap so my best advice is to generally ignore it and like what you want to like lol

I wanted to love The Last Hero as much as their other stuff, but it just didn’t do it for me overall. Myles voice sounds twangy and nasally for much of the album, which wasn’t the case for any of the other albums. He either retained some of his Slash style for the record or his constant touring tired out his voice. Then a good chunk of the songs just didn’t do it for me. Stuff like Writing On the Wall, Losing Patience, You Will Be Remembered, and Crows On A Wire felt sub par.

It still gave us Island Of Fools, TSoF, The Other Side, and TLH, which I think are great songs, but overall it just fell flat, especially compared to Fortress which I consider a complete masterpiece.

I honestly don't get the hate for TLH either. And I'm of the opinion that it has some downright bad songs on it. You will be remembered is one of the cringiest tracks they've made imo. And I also could care less for Poison, Twilight, and Losing patience.

But the highs of the album are some of the best songs they've ever done. Cradle, TSOF, Island, and TLH all belong in the top of AB's song roster. TLH in particular being my second fav song of theirs behind BB. And some of the other songs are pretty good too. To me, SMAL, TWOTW, Other Side are better than tracks like peace is broken or cry a river off Fortress, which many people rate as the top AB album. I think Fortress is probably the most consistent and diverse. But there's still several tracks on it I pretty much always skip, so wouldn't say it's exactly flawless either.

My biggest dissapointment with TLH is the lack of a good ballad. In fact I don't think AB have made a really great ballad since AB III.

I completely agree with all of this. Don't really miss ballads though, but maybe that's in general I don't really like 'm.

I like their ballads. I just don't like when they make it a checkbox item on an album, especially when they say "well we want to add some heavier flair to it" at the same time. Take Ghost of Days Gone By's bridge, or All Ends Well's "Gonna hurt like hell" line with the chord progression. Just leave those alone, and make them be the best damn ballads they can be. Let it come naturally, though. That's why when they don't have one on an album then I'm okay as well, because it lets me understand they didn't do it for the sake of doing it.

It starts with the mix and arrangements. Address those, and no there isn't anything wrong with it. Myles stays in his higher register the whole time, though.

I think Tremonti has continued to make good ballads on his solo outings, often with superb solos in them. But the AB ones off the last couple albums have been a bit more formulaic.

I like some of their ballads but they work better in acoustic. I think they should have recorded it that way for the albums instead of full band.
Watch Over You is a good example of this. The album version is so generic and cheesy (I always skip it) but when I hear the acoustic performances it seems like a totally different song.
