All we really need is some studio photo that has a blurry image of the white board in the background so we can go Ethan Hunt deciphering working titles and guessing what style of song each one is.

Greg, you spelled the title wrong, unless you got a time machine where we can go back to 2013 and relive the Fortress recording cycle which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

That's why I asked Ubik to start this.

If you track 2 songs a day it would take 7 days to track all 14 songs. Now Im purely speculating here because I don't know how long they are working in a day, or how many days they're in the studio per week, or how many songs they record in a day, but since they take about a week and some change per instrument Id assume they gotta at least be doing two songs a day which doesnt seem like that much to me. :shrug :/ :lol

I think people also forget at times that these guys are professionals and have been doing this for 20+ years. Everyone focuses on the time spent on Blackbird which I do too at times, but they didn't have the other projects they do now. Those can only create more ideas and all the writing they can do while on tour as well. We are also in the digital age where its seamlessly easy to send audio files to each other for ideas and can send them back, etc. It's clear most of this album was written on The Last Hero Tour and the pre-pro was just touching up on songs and adding some other things they liked or came up with since the last tour. I think it also shows these guys are locked in and aren't over thinking anything. They could very well catch lightning in a bottle really fast. Let's just hope for a 10x better mixing than The Last Hero. That alone will make it better to me personally!

ELVIS IS THE PRODUCER AGAIN SO THE CYMBALS ARE GONNA BE TOO LOUD AND BLEED THROUGH THE REST IN THE MIX. ALSO IS BRIAN EVEN ON THIS RECORD? WHERES THE BASS!?

Is that a joke?

I mean I know your comment itself comes from a sarcastic standpoint, but am I to infer that you're suggesting the bass wasn't noticed in the TLH album?

Bass guitar shouldn't overpower the song. It should fill the air for the measures that are being played by the other instruments.

TLH had two big problems with bass: 1) providing nearly as complex riffs for Marshall as there were for guitars; 2) lowering the frequency of the bass so that it is "felt" more than "heard."

Either way, it's still there and with proper equipment is very noticeable.

I totally agree about recording times. These guys are pros and it's clear from their prior efforts that they get to the studio ready to go. Why do they need 2 days? I mean, most of their albums are 60-70 minutes. If you give Elvis and Jef a minute or two to fuss with the knobs and sliders and other doohickeys between songs before recording the next track, Flip ought to be able to bang out the 14 songs in about an hour and a half and then everyone can head out for an early lunch.
