Having given away my tickets already, I bought another ticket while taxiing (yes, I know I should have been in airplane mode) and went straight from the airport to the venue in Denver arrived just before Deep Fall went on. Got to hang with one of my dear Jr High/HS buds who travelled from L.A. to see the show, too. Loved getting 4 ODR songs, and Forever Falling was a really cool surprise. I also got to see and sign the 5'x3' Colorado State flag with the Walk The Sky artwork printed in the center of the C that we passed around the line and road before the show to get fans to sign and leave a note for the band. A buddy and I dreamed that up and made that happen, so it was very cool to see it in person. Another friend who was on the rail handed it to Myles just before they left before the encore but the timing was a bit weird so Myles didn't really show it off, but it was still cool to see him holding it.

Very cool! I'm really looking forward to the shows this weekend in Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. I'm hoping between the two, I get to hear the following: "Burn it Down," "Native Son," and "Dying Light." If I see those three at some point over those two shows, I'll come away happy. Is Myles singing Burn it Down, or has Mark taken that on full time?

TONIGHT! Show 1 of 2! Can't wait!

:rockon :rockon

Edit. If the setlists hold true, I'll get the A and B setlists, which is what I was hoping for. So Dying Light, Burn it Down, and Watch Over You tonight, and Native Son, Waters Rising, and In Loving Memory on Sunday. Fingers crossed. Dying Light and Native Son are MUST SEES. :)

I remember back in San Francisco on the AB III tour, they put in "Show Me a Sign," which wasn't played that often. One of my favorites. So killer. And that was when they were selling recordings from soundboard after the gig, so I got that show.

In Spokane in 2017, we got Words Darker Than Their Wings, which was epic.

After this weekend, I'll have seen them seven times (2007, 2011-2x, 2014, 2017, 2020-2x). So pissed I missed the ODR tour. They didn't play NorCal on that tour, except I think a real short appearance mid-week opening for something, and it was impossible to get to, as it was about three hours away, more with the work week traffic.

But I'm not expecting them to deviate tonight or Sunday from their A/B setlists. I'll ask em at the M&G on Sunday to slip in something into the set that they've done before, but haven't on this tour, but I doubt they will, since the M&G is after soundcheck. I was hoping they'd do "The End is Here." Always wanted to see that with my own eyes, instead of the Royal Albert Hall recording. :)

I mean, it's not like they're going to pull out "Save Me," even if I had my 11 year old (who is a HUGE fan) beg them. :lol :lol

Had a blast last night with the Mrs. at Alter Bridge's gig in the Mont Bleu Resort Casino & Spa (Lake Tahoe/Stateline, NV). Unfortunately, I got my least favorite setlist that I've seen on the tour. I call it the "C" setlist. And it was as follows:

1. Wouldn't You Rather
2. Isolation
3. Come to Life
4. Pay No Mind
5. Ghosts of Days Gone By
6. Take the Crown
7. White Knuckles
8. Rise Today
9. Cry of Achilles
10. Waters Rising
11. Watch Over You
12. Blackbird
13. Open Your Eyes
14. Metalingus
--
15. Godspeed
16. Addicted to Pain

It was the same as setlist.fm has for the Feb. 12 show in Ft. Wayne, with the exception of TtC and WK being flip-flopped. (Perhaps the entry for Ft. Wayne was wrong.) Anyway, as I said, least favorite set. I was really hoping to see Native Son and Dying Light this weekend, and if the band holds true to form, I'll see one of those, but not both.

Performance-wise, the poster above that was saying something about Myles' more reserved presence on stage made a good observation -- Myles did seem a little lackluster. But it wasn't "mailing it in." The dude is clearly recovering from something. If you're a singer, you can tell. He's enjoying himself, but its frustrating when you want to just cut loose, and you have to just conserve to make sure you don't make things worse. I'm not a professional singer, but my wife is professionally trained, and she heard it right away -- he's just being mindful of his voice and energy. With a day off today (Saturday), I'm confident he'll ramp it up a little on Sunday in San Francisco. He just needs to shake whatever it is that nailed him.

That said, i thought the vocals sounded good. Solid performance, and Myles seemed to warm up and get better as the show went on. Singers are funny in that some tend to do extensive warmups prior to a show, and come out of the gate firing, or some just do a minimal warm up and then use the first few songs to see where their voice is at. Myles is clearly the latter, as by the time the show ended, it sounded like he was at his peak for that night, and could have sustained it for a few songs more. Mark did a good job on Waters Rising, as usual. Not my favorite song, but it was good.

Musically, not really sure what I can say -- AB always seems to kill it. Extremely tight live band. I thought the pace was a little slow on a couple of songs, but other than that, no real complaints. BMarsh is completely underrated as a bassist. The guy is SO solid night after night. He and Flip really have some outstanding chemistry that provides the backbone for Myles and Mark to do their thing.

Speaking of Flip, last night was his birthday, so the band took a few seconds to sing him happy birthday. See below for the clip (I missed a few seconds). And after being a fan of this band since their debut in 2004, and being a Creed fan since 1997, Scott Phillips has improved SO. MUCH. During his time in Creed, I really wasn't all that blown away by him, other than noting that he and I are both fans of Living Colour and Will Calhoun's drumming. But as time has gone on, he has stepped up his game enormously. Really good feel, powerful, and his fills are so much better these days. I caught a drum stick from Flip last night as well. Fired a fastball up the middle that I grabbed. Unlike the last time I got one way back on the AB III tour, this one did not have his name or the band name on it. So I am going to see if he can sign it tomorrow in San Fran.

All in all, a fun night out with the Mrs. My sixth time seeing AB since 2007 in Spokane. Tomorrow will be the seventh. I'm hoping I can convince the guys tomorrow to play Native Son and Dying Light in the same setlist, but fingers crossed I at least get one of them. I'm a little nervous they'll play the setlist from Feb. 14, which has Burn it Down, My Champion, and Loving Memory instead. And I really DO NOT want that. I want the new tunes. I'm not big on Take the Crown, Pay No Mind, or even Godspeed (I know, I know), so the fact I got those last night was a little bit of a bummer. Native Son and Dying Light though would make my night.

p.s. for those who haven't gone yet, some killer merch. I'm not a big fan of the Walk the Sky woman logo, but it makes for a nice hoodie, that is thinner than the ones in the past (I have hoodies from the 2014 and 2017 tours). Good selection of shirts (including a woman's one that my wife got), and I nabbed a couple of them, including the state-specific limited one for Nevada (going to get the California one tomorrow).

All right. Here we go again. At the Regency Ballroom. Once again, first in line that’s non VIP and not taking guitar clinic. Don’t see myself getting rail, but maybe I’ll get lucky like I did at the Raleigh show.

Ok I think my ears could be playing tricks but I think they are rehearsing Indoctrination what I can hear outside.

They were! We weren't let inside for soundcheck until that was done. Looks like they are prepping it for the next leg of dates, or maybe Spokane, as they seem to drop some stuff into Spokane (One By One in 2007, Words Darker Than Their Wings in 2017) dates that they don't play much.

Well, what a difference a day off makes. As I said in my previous post about the Stateline/Lake Tahoe gig, I could tell Myles was recovering from something. But let me tell you, he recovered completely to my ears on Sunday night at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.

You could tell in soundcheck that Myles' voice was in prime form. He had a power to his voice that just wasn't there on Friday. I'll get to all that more as I talk about the show. But I turned to my wife and said "it's already leaps and bounds better" and she nodded in agreement during the soundcheck of "Cry of Achilles." As mentioned above, they did "Indoctrination," along with "Cry of Achilles," "Forever Falling" and "Wouldn't You Rather" during soundcheck, although they didn't let the VIP folks into the room until Indoctrination was done.

The show itself was a solid 90 minutes, with One Life starting promptly at 9:00 p.m., and the band finishing up just past 10:30 p.m. The setlist was the same as the 2/17 gig in Denver, so I finally got to see "Native Son," and it was great. Now I see what Myles was talking about in interviews about that song, and playing/singing it at the same time. You could tell the guitar part he was doing was a little more complicated and he had to really get the timing down to nail the vocals and what he was playing. Great stuff.

The whole set was energetic. Myles came out with a ton of energy from the get-go. He was way more engaging with the crowd, and it became very obvious the last couple of shows he was recovering from something. Because in San Francisco, he was the Myles I remembered from Spokane 2017 and San Fran 2014 - getting into the show, moving around, talking more, and it just seemed a lot easier for him in comparison to the other night in Tahoe. The crowd helped too. I'm usually very critical of the lame crowds I've witnessed in California (I'm a New York/Long Island native). Not true every time I've seen Alter Bridge in San Fran (2011, 2014, 2020). For a Sunday night, the crowd was INTO it, and Myles mentioned it a couple of times. Again, he had a ton of energy, sang with some great power, etc. He hit notes, but obviously, was not holding them for eons (like he did in Spokane 2017, which was the last show of the tour, so I get it). But those of you seeing AB this week, prime Myles awaits you!

Mark, Brian, and Flip were also feeling good and really into it. The crowd loved Mark's lead vocals in "Forever Falling," and B Marsh was really more active on stage, engaging with people, hamming it up a bit, much more than I remember him doing that in the past. They looked to be in a dynamite mood and it showed.

We all know how good Mark is as a guitarist, but man, each time I see the guy, it seems like he continues to get better. I know he's obsessed with his instrument, and it really shines through. It always seems he gets better and better with each successive tour. And speaking of guitars, love that Myles had a little solo bit prior to one of the songs (I am forgetting which one). Really shows his more jazz/blues-based style.

Highlights for me were Native Son, Cry of Achilles, In Loving Memory (acoustic), Forever Falling, and I really got into Ghosts of Days Gone By (not normally one that I put up there with my favorites). I can't speak highly enough of the performance by AB last night. They killed it, and the new material slayed. So happy we got five songs from Walk the Sky last night. One day, I hope I'll get to see the title track and Dying Light.

One thing my wife was wondering was why Mark doesn't sing the harmony parts on some of the new songs, particularly the chorus of "Pay No Mind." On the record, Myles harmonizes with himself, but live, obviously Mark does the harmonies. But while he does on a lot of the older material, he doesn't on the new stuff. She was going to ask him, but we didn't really get a chance with the way the meet and greet is set up.

In what was a change to us, the whole structure of the M&Gs now is different. We've gone three times now (2014, 2017, 2020), and I'm pretty sure we're done at this point. Let me be clear, Helen, who is in charge of things, does a WONDERFUL job communicating and getting people where they need to be. She's funny, engaging, and takes care of things. But unlike in 2014 when I got a couple of LPs signed, and 2017 when I got two tour posters (an AB III one, and one from the Royal Albert Hall gig) signed, they were very clear that the band WOULD NOT be signing anything, at all. It was emailed out, it was announced while we were waiting, etc. I understand the policy change. Simply put, I remember people bringing in STACKS of shit in the past, and it was ridiculous. So while a bummer, I got it.

I guess where my frustration was (again, not Helen or the band, just the policy) is that the way the thing is set up now, you have absolutely no time to ask them questions. Almost zero. The three of us were herded into the photo line. We waited, got to the band, each took one, and got a family photo with the band (thanks Helen). But in years past, we were able to ask a question or two. NO CHANCE at this point. You're herded quickly through the line. That really bummed us out. I was able to say hello, and then the pic, and literally as we're being ushered out, I was able to tell the guys that we loved the new record, and asked Mark if they could do "Dying Light" that night (he said "aw, man, we didn't rehearse it today.") and that was it. I mean, smiles and hellos, but boom, picture and you're out, and you're handed a pre-signed nice tour poster (it really is nice) as you walk out the door.

Obviously, this was our third time, and I've gotten enough signed stuff. But the value of spending $175 for me is the conversation time (two minutes to ask a few questions to the guys would have been fine) the soundcheck, and getting an odd item signed like an old show flier or something. I mean, Flip tossed me a drum stick Friday night, I brought it just on the off chance he'd sign it, but I was told "NO SIGNING" the moment it was seen by staff, so I told him that I caught it and we took a picture with it (me and the band). But the policy change, and just the way the set up is now, my fam and I just don't think the cost justifies what you get at this point. It needs to be a smaller, more personal experience.

Anyway, I don't want that to come off as negative or me really having a bad time -- we didn't. We had a blast. I just wanted to get that out there for those who are planning to do VIP at an upcoming show, so they know what to expect. The soundcheck is always a blast though. Appreciate them letting you take all the pics and vids you want, and doing that. :rockon

The whole weekend was a lot of fun, and it was nice to see two shows in a row, with some different songs played, and Myles capping it off with a great vocal performance. So thrilled I got to see "Native Son" live, and my wife, daughter and I could all do it together. Been an AB hardcore since the debut record, and this was my seventh time seeing Alter Bridge (first being Spokane 2007 on the Blackbird tour), and I can]t wait for more. They just keep seeming to get tighter.

Here is some video from the San Fran show:

Hope those going to the LA gig tonight have a ton of fun. Those of you into merch, get there early - the California-only shirts (the ones they allotted for San Fran) sold out quickly. My guess is they'll have 70-something for tonight.

That sounds awesome, Skywalker. Glad to hear Myles was killing it. He sounded really good and clean here in Denver, and the band as a whole was perfect, but some of the high vocal notes were a lot shorter and a couple times an octave down, so I had the same thought that maybe he was fighting a bug again (Kev...!!!). But I've also had a few pro singers do the same and tell me that it's technically harder to sing at altitude, and so maybe the Denver-Salt Lake-Tahoe run was just a time to conserve things a bit. My brother was at the Vegas show (between SLC and Tahoe) and said Myles sounded fantastic. Who knows.

I also agree about the M&G experience with AB. I did buy a M&G ticket for the show here (but had to give it away as I didn't get back in town until showtime), but it is a notably different experience from other M&Gs I've done recently and frankly, the others offer more time to interact or more goodies for the same or cheaper price. I did M&G with Queensrÿche a week before (for the same price as AB), and they limit the number of people, sign anything and everything you want to bring, give you a tote bag with a bunch of band swag, and then reserve about 15 minutes after that for pure conversation time and/or individual pics with the band members. I'll keep doing the M&G with AB because it's worth it to me to get the photo and say a quick hello, but other M&Gs do offer a lot more.
Another photobucket casualty... :(

Thanks yeah, he sounded great. The notes were short, but he hit them. That's to be expected, given they are in the middle of a run. I expect he'll let loose in Spokane again, since I think that's the last show of this run before the next leg starts in the spring.

As for the M&G, I hope it didn't come off as too negative. I just have noticed the change over the years, and wanted to share that, so people can adjust their expectations accordingly. The guys are all super nice, and Helen is a sweetheart. Policies are policies, and they do make sense, even if it was a bummer. And if it was just me attending the $175 for it would be fine. But since it is three of us total, it makes less sense, money-wise, for the overall value. $525 is a lot of coin. LOL.

All right, I'm back in SoCal after being in San Francisco. Skywalker summed out a lot of things of what I experienced. One thing of note was that I was hearing a lot of Myles as if he was on helium, but that might be because I didn't bring my ear plugs and didn't do a great job protecting my ears in between sets with loud house music playing that may affect the way I was hearing Myles. No matter, doing that here in tonight's LA show.

I'll sum more of my thoughts at a later time, but the band as a whole played tremendous. Didn't think 16 songs would equal 90 minutes, but it did and they didn't do anything that I would say they need to cut.

Enjoy the show tonight! I'm curious if you get Indoctrination. Hope you do! Also, I was thinking of you (since we also both post on DTF) while waiting in line, and then getting out of the M&G. But I didn't know what you looked like, nor did I message you prior to the show, otherwise I would have said hello when you were on line waiting to get in.

Have a great time this evening!

I was the first guy in line that wasn't VIP or doing the guitar clinic. Was wearing the skull t-shirt that came with the Royal Albert Hall bundle and I had glasses. I think it is very hard to not notice me.

On that note, Ryan, if you read this message. We need to meet up this time, I'll be sporting this tour's t-shirt (the one with the birds and Myles being left-handed). I'll be near the front at around 3:00 PM. Hard to miss me this time. I don't know what you look like though.

Yep, I remember walking right past you. If you were watching folks go in, my wife and I were with the young girl with the teal-colored jacket.

Anyway, enjoy the show tonight! Totally jealous. Would love to do three in a row. I did three shows in a row from Fates Warning last year, but two of those were opening sets, followed by a headline. Total blast for three or four days.

Ty. Once again in second row behind Myles’ side. I’m near the same group of people that has a handicapped person with them from yesterday’s show.

Seeing so many familiar faces and yet I don’t know what Ryan looks like. We got to fix that picture, man.

All right, I'm back from the LA show. Let's get the negatives right away. Uhhh, while AB were throwing out the picks at the end of the show, I was trying to give a signal to have them throw one my way and in the process, I accidentally struck someone's face with my wrist. Man, I feel like ass in that moment and I tried profusely to apologize to that woman, but either she didn't hear it or she thinks I'm a try-hard bas**** and she hates me forever and I ruined her night. I feel so terrible about it. I've become what I've hated. It hurts so much. I feel like I'm going to get blackballed out of something. I just hope she can forgive me for what I've done in that moment.

This won't mend the pain, but let's give the positives. AB did the same set as yesterday, but switched Native Son with Dying Light, Forever Falling with Waters Rising, and In Loving Memory with Watch Over You. Sensible tradeoffs for what I think they were going for. Crowd was solid enough, but I give the slight edge to the San Francisco crowd. I had earplugs on the entire night before AB's set where I removed them during their set and I think I heard the best overall sound they have ever sounded in the five times I've seen them. Sure, I still heard Myles on helium here and there, but it didn't last the entire night. Seeing Watch Over You acoustic into the full band is a great highlight. Erock came out to play Metalingus with them and I think Clint Lowery in his set also mentioned that Wolfgang Van Halen was also at the show (he gave the shoutout to him since Wolfgang did drums on his solo album). Saw a lot of familiar faces as well. I mentioned that there was a group that had some handicapped people that I was next to for the San Francisco show and they were there for the LA show and a nice lady, that I talked a good amount with in between sets both times, give me a pick from this show since she already got one from what I think was the prior show. I also spotted the guy that facepainted the words Myles Kennedy when we were at the Myles solo show in LA in 2018. He was here for this show with another facepaint to fit the AB Walk the Sky aesthetics. Once again, sometimes I wish I was as dedicated as a fan like the people I have met and observed in the times I've seen AB. Instead, I look too try-hardy and feel like ass at some point.

One more positive. I finally friken met Ryan, our mod here, at a LA show after the set was done. It took us six years and like four attempts (three AB shows, including the listening party in Orlando, and the Myles solo show in LA), but it finally happened. Cool guy. I wish we had taken a picture together, but my feet was insanely sore and I still felt bad about the accident as it just happened minutes ago. I'm sorry I couldn't live up to expectations man.

Overall, this was a greatest show of my life contender marred by one terrible accident after the set was over. It's going to haunt me forever.
