"Calm the Fire" barely edges out "In Loving Memory" for first place in my book. "Calm the Fire" is one of AB's most interesting songs with its unique intro and the way Myles sings the verses slightly overlapping at the beginning and end of each line. It's very dramatic and rightfully so, given its powerful subject matter. It's tough not to put ILM first, given how special it is, but I just think CTF is a stronger song.

Calm the Fire will surely win this again, and rightfully so because it's a great song (abw couldn't have put it better). ILM is amazing as well and deeply emotional.

However, my vote goes to Wonderful Life. It's not one of their most complex or musically superior songs, but it's beautiful, and one of the few songs I know that is really upgraded thanks to its lyrics (I don't usually evaluate music based on lyrics).

And with one last embrace
As the tears fall like rain
You're gone

And with one last goodbye
As you fade out tonight
You're gone

Hence my ranking:

Wonderful Life
In Loving Memory/Calm The Fire
Rise Today

Indoctrination/Losing Patience - two of their worst tracks ever in my eyes.

I think the sorting will have to go like this:

In Loving Memory
Wonderful Life
Calm The Fire
Indoctrination
Rise Today
Losing Patience

In Loving Memory and Wonderful Life are simply top-tier. I think Wonderful Life is a bit too loud and busy on the record, but in concert with Watch Over You it is simply glorious. Plus, "Close your eyes and just hear me sing" is a beautiful way to start this track. Both focus on the heavy topic of death, and they are done in a masterclass kind of way. ILM still edges out WL, though.

Calm the Fire gains near epicness because of the beginning leading into the rest of the song (which no doubt is a fine song on its own), and Rise Today for me is just too bland in the chorus to win any points for me. That places Indoctrination in the middle by virtue of just not otherwise knowing how else to rank it.

Losing Patience was doomed from the start, for me. The "swarm of bees" opening, filtered verse sounds with the word "telephone" in it (I don't know why, but any song that uses the word "phone" sounds too weird for me, probably because it just feels very generational), and the song is just meh going through a crappy mix. It won points over with me down the line when I heard Myles do it acoustically, but it doesn't edge anything else out.

Gotta go with Calm the Fire. Top 5 Alter Bridge, it’s just a beautiful work of art. I also love Wonderful Life and Rise Today. RT is especially underrated, I think. I like the simple guitars in the beginning and it actually has one of Marks better solos at the end. They are going against CtF, though, so no contest.

CTF, because I still get chills when I hear the opening falsetto phrase.

Hahaha did you come up with that "swarm of bees" description? I've never heard it before but it works perfectly. I've got it on my workout playlist and now I'm always going to think of that when it comes up.

CTF wins this one for me, although I really like Indoctrination. I think the lyrics of Indoctrination are really good, but CTF has a little more creativity to it.

In Loving Memory. If it was just Calm The Fire's intro, I'd consider voting for it, but I don't like the rest of the song as much as I like ILM. Still a fantastic song, though.

Looks like another no contest victory, this time for Calm The Fire...
Indoctrination has such a nasty riff though, one of my favorites from the new record.
Wonderful Life and In Loving Memory both mean so much to me.
I've never cared much for Losing Patience and Rise Today is an anthem for this generation...

I hate these track battles!

Well, I never heard of the swarm of bees description before, but the bridge of All I Was always reminded me of a swarm of wasps!

Nope, all credit goes to abw1987 for that one. Though I will say the first time I heard the song, that's all I could picture. I still can't get it out of my head. I once put this in a post:
MuffinMcFluffin wrote:What I picture is like... see the arrows going after the album guy's face? I imagine those as bees all going in one direction like that with their stinger asses sticking out that way from underneath them... I'm weird lol.

I imagine it as a sudden and rapid expansion of bees. Like a Big Bang, but with bees.
