Oh golly! WDDTW vs. Dying Light.

I've got to go with Words on this one. It just elicits so many emotions... desperation, urgency, hopelessness, hopefulness, uncertainty... and the conversational vocals are one of the realest things AB have ever done.

Dying Light isn't too far off. The Damage Done would be third, and I can't decide between the other two for forth and fifth place.

The only duel that Words would lose is against Blackbird.

Dying Light is a great song and possibly AB's best "epic" since AB III for me, but it's still way behind Words.

The other tracks in this battle are among the weakest AB tracks.

Words
Dying Light

Last Of Our Kind
The Damage Done
Cruel Sun

Words Darker Than Their Wings
Dying Light
The Damage Done
Last of Our Kind
Cruel Sun

Last of Our Kind and Cruel Sun are among AB bottoms for me, like of all time.

I'm going with Dying Light, I've always thought that Words it's a lil bit overrated

While Dying Light is amazing, Words is perfection

I love Words Darker for getting Mark onto lead vox, and for that note, but I think Dying Light is the better song. The melody is just so nice.

Dying Light. It's got the quiet, the heaviness, the dual solos!

I know I'm in the minority here. Forgive me for being blunt - WDTTW and Dying Light do nothing for me. I find them rather bland. The Damage Done got my vote.

Please don't take this as a personal attack or anything like that, it's really just out of curiosity - how is it possible to be an Alter Bridge fan and not like these songs? To me, those songs are what defines this band because they're the biggest aspect that makes them stand out compared to literally all other (well known) rock bands on the planet right now. It amazes me how the two of us apparently have completely different tastes of music but still love the same band.

No offense taken. I love AB. They have been my favorite band since 2004. Their albums and songs have carried me through many chapters of life - graduating college, moving across the country, dealing with addiction, breaking up with my fiancee, and the everyday grind of work. I realize the two songs we are discussing have deep meaning to many fans. I identify with and gravitate towards the more aggressive side of AB - Metalingus, Buried Alive, White Knuckles, The Damage Done, Isolation, Addicted to Pain, Bleed It Dry, Farther Than The Sun, Island of Fools, Native Son etc. The combination of riffs, solos, Myles' singing, and lyrics in those songs equal "Alter Bridge" to me and would be examples of how I describe the band to those who have never heard them. I simply don't connect in the same way to WDTTW and Dying Light. I can't argue that that AB appeals to different people in different ways.

Dying Light. It's my fav off the new album and was the pre-release single that affirmed AB is still AB and gave me the first listen chills lve gotten from them time and again.

Words - although it was a tough choice. Dying Light and Damage Done are both really great songs. Something about the arpeggio picking in WDTTW and the vocals has always been some of my favorites. The discussion themed lyrics are a cool bonus too.
