Your favourite lead single?
Your favourite lead single?
To be honest, P&K caught me off guard and I think it was a very bold decision to release it as a lead single, it's become my favourite.
Isolation is the close second one, I remember listening to it like 40 times in a row when it first came one. It's also the single that charted the best if memory serves.
Show Me a Leader would have been better if they included the intro in the single edit.
My ranking would be:
1. Pawns & Kings
2. Isolation
3. Open Your Eyes
4. Addicted to Pain
5. Show Me a Leader
6. Rise Today
7. Wouldn't Your Rather
Which one is yours?

Re: Your favourite lead single?
Nice poll.. I voted for Rise Today, though it was a coin toss with Open Your Eyes.
In regards to Pawns & Kings, Mark told me, "even though it is the first song that the world will hear from this new album, it is not regarded as a single"... I guess it is not for radio as it's over 3 minutes long. I like the bold choice and it shows off the many talents Alter Bridge has. Enjoying this new tune!

I agree completely. Still I voted for Isolation. I remember that this song blew my mind back then. Moreover, Pawns & Kings is completely fresh, so of course it sounds more exciting to our ears right now. Let's see how this develops in future. Nevertheless I'm quite sure the song belongs on a very high position. Not sure if Isolation can be beaten though.Dolo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 4:01 am To be honest, P&K caught me off guard and I think it was a very bold decision to release it as a lead single, it's become my favourite.

Re: Your favourite lead single?
Perhaps recency bias, but Pawns & Kings is my #1 here. It's the kind of song I've been wishing AB would release as a lead single for probably 10+ years. Not that I don't appreciate a good 3-4 minute banger as a lead single, I just don't feel those types of songs highlight the band's strengths nearly as well as a song like P&K. This is more representative of the band, and it fucks, so it gets my vote.

Re: Your favourite lead single?
I opted for Isolation, mainly for a sentimental reason, as it was the first single released after I had discovered the band

Re: Your favourite lead single?
I gotta go with "Isolation" on this.
I won't rank them because I haven't digested P&K yet, but "Isolation" is the one that immediately sticks out to me when considering all of the songs as lead singles. It's the perfect mix of everything you'd want in a single. It's got an instantly classic driving riff, it's catchy, and it's a great representation of what Alter Bridge are all about. Yes, it's essentially a basic verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-bridge-chorus composition, but the lead sections in the middle of each pre-chorus and the breakdown before the solo make the song just interesting enough to not be generic. I remember the feeling of excitement I had when I first heard it: "this is AWESOME. It will appeal to the causal rock fan, all while proving that Alter Bridge aren't your typical radio band."
"Open Your Eyes" is great but I instantly thought they were shooting themselves in the foot by releasing too Creedy of a debut single (which is ironic given "Down to my Last" was passed over for being too similar to Creed) – I mean, come on... it's basically the "My Sacrifice" riff in the same open D5 tuning, which was on Mark's previous album with Creed!
"Rise Today" is great but I remember being disappointed they went with something so straightforward as the lead single.
"Addicted to Pain" has never been a favorite of mine... I enjoy it but the chorus doesn't stand up to the others for me.
"Show Me a Leader" is a strong contender. It's got that awesome intro with the bombastic drums and slimy leads, grabbing your attention right out of the gate. It's catchy, and it's interesting, but the overzealous vocal overdubs take away some of the punch for me, so it doesn't quite surpass "Isolation".
"Wouldn't Your Rather" is similar to "Addicted to Pain" – good song, but the chorus doesn't cut it for a lead single IMO.
As for "Pawns and Kings", we'll see...

Re: Your favourite lead single?
oh yeah, had the same thread idea - good one!!
for me personally (generally haven't been big on the lead singles so take this ranking with a grain of salt):
7. show me a leader
6. rise today
--
5. wouldn't you rather
4. addicted to pain
3. pawns & kings
--
2. open your eyes
1. isolation
line breaks indicate drop offs (or steps up, if you'd like) in regards to quality imo

Re: Your favourite lead single?
I am blown away by the 6 minute release of Pawns & Kings. It is so AB and so incredibly unique. 3 minutes in...It just keeps getting better.
I see Awards, Lots of them! I think this one will get the attention that all the others should have gotten and all the years of hard work and devotion is going to come back very soon in such a huge, huge way! (No Doubts)
