Re: The Official PERIPHERY Thread
Marigold, Lune and Alpha are amongst my favorites. Looking forward to the new record!

Mad song. References to old songs, jazz section (including piano and sax solo), crazy af blast beat ending, orchestral second ending.
Second one references a videogame soundtrack at 6:47 or so (it's named after the main character/greek god). Good song.

Yeah, these two songs are really good. Loved the sax solo in Wildfire. Caught me by surprise. Lol

Re: The Official PERIPHERY Thread
As a big fan of Hades I was excited to see one called Zagreus lol

Re: The Official PERIPHERY Thread
I'm very new to this band. I listened to Wildfire and Zagreus. My first reaction is they are a much heavier, more aggressive version of Issues. The vocalist reminds me of Tyler Carter and Sam Carter (from Architects). What are the go to songs? This list accurate?

I'm watching Rick Beato break down Absolomb. Very cool stuff where he takes apart the individual instruments and talks a bit with Misha.

Really enjoyed the album. Outside the pre-release tracks I was a big fan of Wax Wings, Dracul Gras, and Thanks Nobuo (really liked the ambient outro). I think Silhoutte and Dying Star are pretty good but I probably would’ve separated them in the track listing since they’re both pretty mellow.
Wax Wings is the standout for me. One of my favorite songs they’ve done.

Re: The Official PERIPHERY Thread
Initial impressions of the album, I feel like it's a step down from Hail Stan. It has some great moments throughout songs, but there are a few songs as a whole I don't really care for. (Silhouette and Dying Star) I feel like the album was missing a few more heavy breakdown moments and big solos. And the palate cleanser/ambient outros are so annoying to me, personally.
Atropos - remove outro to make it 7:15
Zagreus - remove outro to make it 7:05
Dracul Gras - remove the outro to make it 9:56
Thanks Nobou - remove outro to make it 7:37
Wildfire
Wax Wings
Dracul Gras
Atropos
Everything Is Fine!
Zagreus
Thanks Nobou
Dying Star
Silhouette

Re: The Official PERIPHERY Thread
I think this is a great album after listening through a few times. More successful overall than PIV: Hail Stan - better production, more flow to the experience and more consistent experience (though PIV had the super highlight of Reptile). Highlights of this album include:
Wax Wings - Super vocals, inspiring lyrics and all kinds of great hooks
Everything is Fine - Just chaos and ludicrous heaviness that gets weirder as it goes on, but somehow it all works
Dracul Gras - This one goes everywhere in terms of structure and mood and it pulls it off greatly
Atropos - This one just has a vibe that feels really apocalyptic and moody.
Wildfire - Dat' jazz sax solo
There are some issues. The lighter songs don't really connect with me as previous ones have (no Absolomb, Jetpacks or Satellites rivals here). The 'palette cleanser' instrumentals between songs are a bit too overdone this time. I guess that was done because otherwise this album is a little to full-on all the time.
As a whole though, it really feels like the whole band put their all into it this time around. You can feel all the influences and there is a general theme of pushing out depression that feels really resonant after the past few years. I can see a good few of these songs entering my all time Periphery favourites.

Spencer has really taken it to another level vocally over the years. P2 was a big jump for him originally, but you can tell he’s gotten better control over his voice as the years have gone by. I think this record is his best performance to date as a whole. Although I think his best individual song is probably Satellites.

At least for me.

Yeah I’d agree. He hits some insane notes in both.AB4Lyfe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 3:52 pm1. Anyone else been listening to the acoustic versions of Scarlet and It’s Only Smiles? So good.
