Yeah, I guess Stapp could sell millions of records if he wrote lyrics about killing his mother.empjori wrote:Sad news indeed.
Interesting fact: all Eminem albums are still in the top 200 many years after release (his new album is massive).

He could sell millions of records if he wrote lyrics about alcohol and banging bitches. That's for sure.
Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
Yeah but that's what I like about him, his lyrics (especially the older ones) have a lot more meaning to them than the average lyricists.

The lyrics on The Marshall Mathers LP 2 blow everything away on Proof Of Life..
In my opinion.

Right. It's pretty tough to write a bunch of f-words with the occasional "if, they, and, or, but, him, she."Timotheus wrote:The lyrics on The Marshall Mathers LP 2 blow everything away on Proof Of Life..

Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
Why are we comparing a rap lyricist to a rock lyricist?
Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
Especially when that rap lyricist is Eminem. I mean, if you're after good lyrics in hip-hop... he's not the fellow to listen to. I'd rather listen to Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and KRS One... and many others.nagpo wrote:Why are we comparing a rap lyricist to a rock lyricist?
Alas, I know I'm taking this even more slightly off-topic

No, he couldn't. Stapp isn't having trouble with this album because people don't like the lyrics. Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
Plus, and I understand its tough to compare... but out of all the horrible lyrics that rappers use today, you're saying eminem is the bad one? Like honestly if there are 3 good rappers out there nowadays he is one of them.
Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
50 Cent/Eminem/Macklemore/Mike Shinoda. The only rappers who know how to rap.
Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
Eminem, J cole are the two best imo. Then there's the classics like 2pac. But the rest now are awful. Rap is not about words making an impact anymore. Its about who can make the best new dance. The words don't mean anything. For proof, whenever that song "red nose" comes on I literally go around buzzkill style and ask everyone what a red nose is. NEVER have I gotten an answer other than IDK. But there they are shakin their ass to it. What if it meant swastikas or machettes or some shit?
But I'll save the rest of the argument for a different thread

Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
May I suggest that Stapp's having trouble with this album because the majority of people simply haven't heard the music? I mean, a lot of people would probably still be surprised if they were told that it even exists really, you know? - He was never going to get the attention that is given to so many artists these days. That being said, it's not a good album to say the least - so there's no guarantee that extra attention would have made for extra success. But then there's never a shortage of poor music becoming popular (Miley Cyrus, One Direction and so on) but they all have something in common - silly teenagers. In order to be successful in this day and age you either have to make something good (and have a little bit of luck)... or you have to make something extraordinarily catchy that blinds the dumb masses to the poor quality of the music. I think Scott's album falls very much in the middle of those two extremes, distinctly average.AB23 wrote:No, he couldn't. Re: Proof of Life first week sales predictions
The promotion was terrible and the label is killing it of course, but the quality of the music isnt really helping either
